Description A map showing the primary Written Systems of the world by country.

Notes:

1. 'Other Scripts' is essentially the handful of scripts only predominantly spoken in one country.

2. The map shows the de facto situation, not official languages or scripts, hence you have examples like the UAE which is an Arab country with a large non-Arab majority population who primarily speak English and Hindi-Urdu and as a result their are three different scripts used predominantly.

3. In terms of numbers the largest three are in order; Latin, Chinese and Arabic.

Nice map.

Although I must say it struck me as odd that several countries are under 'other script' because their script is only used in their country, yet Greece and Armenia don't.

Greek and Armenian are cases where the language is used in only two countries; Greek in Greece and Cyprus and Armenian in Armenia and the partially recognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Japan is unique in that it has three indigenous (Chinese Characters being so given how long they've been used) scripts used together; Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana.
