Who would expect that honestly. This is probably reserved for close friends and family. : /

I completely agree ^.^ No one else expects to do their job for free, so there's no reason they should expect you to do yours for free either. Very well said. ^.^

wow random people actually ask for free drawings?? i thought it was understood that its hard for artists to make a living...
also since you're a popular artist, people should know that you're going to be busy enough with work/commisions. Youd probably rather spend your free time drawing for yourself and what you like

It's amazing how so little people understand this concept =/
I don't think you sound mean at all! It's completely understandable -- because honestly, if you're gonna draw during your free time, might as well be what you want xD

Since everyone has covered that you are in the right, etc which I totally agree with), I'll instead say that your art is amazing! ;_; If I could draw like that...I'd have drawn something by now, lol!

No, she probably draws other stuff too, she just only POSTS commissions.
Tbh I don't really see how that's sad? It is her full-time job afterall.

You don't sound cruel or mean, and you have every right to tell it how it is. It's rude when someone expects something free out of someone, especially when they're already offering commissions. And so honestly, I can see why you made this journal. I'd be offended too if people kept asking for free poems (I write instead of draw). It's different to try and give an artist a possible idea here and there on what to possibly draw next, although, THAT depends on how it's worded X'D But to ask for someone to draw for them and even IF they weren't offering commissions... to not at least OFFER something in return... it's rude. So you're in the right

You honestly shouldn't feel bad if anyone were to decide that you were "cruel" or "mean" because you cannot accept such ridiculous requests.
It honestly does not matter how nice and how deserving you believe yourselves to be, you simply cannot make such requests off of artists and believe yourself to be in any ways reasonable or fair. Just because an artist is talented and provides relatively fast results, it does not mean that it is not energy-draining and time consuming all the same.
If you cannot spare the money to make a commission then that is unfortunate and yes, of course you are missing out on something nice, but greed should not come before the artist's interests and if you truly respected them and their work then supporting the artist financially should be just as important as receiving your artwork if not moreso.

Your artwork is well worth the price, and it is no easy task to create such lovely art either! If I could draw as well as you, I would be doing the same thing, making it my job. It's very disrespectful that someone would ask that of another.

I'm so glad you are speaking up about this because to many people would ask an artist to do something free for them. It is ignorance because artist need to eat, sleep under the roof and live to do the art.

Yeah everyone wants something for free, a good artist gets a whole ass full of that requests, but after all drawing is work, and working for free is for a big % of us all not even thinkable so I can understand you`re descion.
And after all, for all that "draw me a free pic of this" don`t you feel quilty because this person offers his/her time and talent for a picture you want and don`t even pay him for his work?
Sorry for all the grammar and writing errors english is not my strong language

It really shouldnt be a sorry. I hate to seem mean, but the world is also a tough place, and no free art means no free art. The only ones that need to be sorry are the ones who think they should get free art.

It is INCREDIBLY disrespectful of someone to ask you to draw something for them for free. It doesn't matter if they didn't mean to cause disrespect.. they weren't thinking about you or what kind of position their question puts you in, and they are actively devaluing your time and skill by requesting such a thing. You should not have to be apologetic! Don't lower your prices, either. Your art is your life.

omg I know your pain ; A ;
the number of requests I get for free art is ridiculous
one person even blatantly asked "where's your free stuff account?"
I don't mind handing out gifts every now then to long time and supportive watchers or doing freebies for loyal customers
I am happy to do it
but when someone shows up who doesn't even watch me, its an automatic no
I don't know why recently there seems to be more people asking for free art > _ >
oh well, not much you can do except ignore them

If I could afford to, I'd buy so much art from you.
XD
Don't even apologize to people for it.
People in a law firm don't apologize for making you pay when you win, do they?
Don't apologize for charging the money you deserve for your art.
It should be common knowledge that art isn't free unless the artist has clearly stated they do requests.
