Seems like from my favorite book "Wolfsaga" of KΓ€the Recheis. Schak, the roller and Schiriki, the wolf

It's rare to see wolves and jays together in art. There used to be a jay that would sit in the tree outside my dorm window, and I would sit watching it. Some people call them annoying, and relegate them to pesky things, but I think they're beautiful. I've never seen a live wolf, not even in a zoo. I've always wanted to though. I love he warm earthy tones in this picture. Lovely.

I love jays.. everything about them. They're just as good a part of nature as anything else. They're smart, cheeky and just down right gorgeous. I had a jay for re-hab for a while.. shortly after I made this picture. The wolf resembles me (as you might have gathered), so it was a nice thing to happen to me

Many thanks!

I guessed you were the wolf connection. There's lots of wolves in your gallery, all well painted and drawn. Was the jay OK?

I got it when it was seven weeks old. It was stepped on by a fairly large woman, then almost eaten by her dog. I raised it until it was ready to go out again, and released it. It spend many weeks outside with the other jays, but had a bit too much nerve. It attacked cats XD He knocked cats clean off the fence in full flight. I guess one day the cats just had enough of it and grabbed him. They didn't eat it, just killed it.

I'm very thankful for the time I got to spend with it

Aw, poor jay, squashed by a fat lady, attacked by a dog and then slain by a cat. Well, cats don't always show much restraint... You were lucky to spend time with it, not many people get that sort of opportunity.

Two cool things about this pic:
1) It's awesome!
2) It looks like the bird is going supersonic... :>

I'm such a geek.

Gods, I love the warm, rich colours of the bachground. It looks so fantasy-like, but still inviting. The way the animals fade into the bg makes them look so pure, like spirits---being truly one with their surroundings.

Thank you! Both the eurasian jay and the wolf mean a lot to me. The fun fact was that a few weeks after I created this piece I received a baby jay for re-hab called Eanjay (which is the jay in my personal picture on the front page of devaintart, only it's a little bit older there)

I can't seem to get that kind of control over my coloured pencils. I guess i have some more work to do.

Gorgeous picture! I love the colors and the detail is amazing. Birds and wolves. . . I can share the same appreciation for those animals. I have three birds myself and I have been dying to get a native american indian dog. They look a lot like wolves/huskys.
You have some great talent and it certainly shows in this piece!

Both the eurasian jays and wolves are very special to me The most wonderful part was that a few weeks after making this piece I received a eurasian jay for re-hab... managed to raise it from only 2 weeks of age.

When he came in: [link]
A little later: [link]
Day before he got killed: [link]

Sadly, he was to 'brave' for his own goods, and he used to pick on cats. On the 22nd the cat got him :/

But I had a grand time with him... it was very special to me

Aww. . . I'm sorry to hear that! That's sad but at least you had good times to remember. It's great that you were able to rehabilitate him. I have a monk parrot that I rehabilitated. He was found on the street with two broken legs (they actually can survive in the wild in the cold new england climate) But he is a doll. . . Fortunately my cat (who is feral) is afraid of everything including my bird.
What a beautiful bird eurasian jays though! Their wings are gorgeous!

Me thinks me should abandon any hope of becoming any good in drawing
Beautiful. I like wolves... And birds, too...

Illahie In reply to ToRi-V [2004-04-14 17:27:06 +0000 UTC]

NEVER EVER abandon hope.. It's not like I was born with the instant 'talent' of drawing in that time. I drew every single day.. and when you do that, you'll learn from your own drawings, and discover a technique you'll feel most comfortable with. Experiment, try, and don't be affraid of failing.. failure is the best thing to learn from

keep it up!
