Recently, I've been on a massive nostalgic games mood, and also been wanting to draw up old game characters, especially ones that have had a big impact on me.And so, here's my rendition of Tokimemo Memorial's broken-English-speaking-music-loving-artist, Katagiri Ayako.
I had a choice of either drawing her sketching or painting, and eventually decided on her painting, as I wanted to try out drawing the canvas and paint pad thingy (whatever they're called?)
Gotta love how they did hair in the 90s!
When I first played Tokimeki Memorial, I didn't understand Japanese and had to rely on really basic translations off the internet to actually get around. Navigating the menu's isn't a problem, but being a dating-sm (woohoo!) problems obviously arise when you're on a date with a girl, she asks you a question, and then you're suddenly given a choice of 3 answers to choose from!
That's like, a 33.33333% chance of getting the correct answer, 33.33333% chance of getting an OK answer....and 33.33333% of completely ruining the date!
Sometimes (always) I wish that real life had conversation prompts...

Awesome! I love Tokimeki Memorial, even though I've never played it. That game made dating sims legit, from what I understand.
Ayako was one of my favorites; so artistic and cultural.

The Tokimemo series are darn good fun, and can even be enjoyed with limited Japanese skills.
And yeah, Ayako was awesome!
But I always found it funny that, even though she claimed to speak English, all she did was repeat the same old phrases over and over again, like some strange reverse Weaboo... ^^
