U571 was a joke as it was British Navy who caught the boat and the enigma machine and not Americans. But Das Boat is classic. good cartoonΒ Β

I have to chime in my two cents on this...
It's whimsical and fun considering the original theme concerning Das Boot. I actually like this piece and the way it has been presented. It isn't a dark piece, it's light despite the somber colors used.
Now, I too would have to say the movie is great for its genre. I have to add that it creates an atmosphere in which one gets inside the cramped quarters, the foul odors- artificial and organic- and the amount of sheer terror the crew feels when they're in a vessel that's DESIGNED TO SINK. I actually have a list of submarine movies....This happens to be number one on the list, followed by Run Silent Run Deep, and The Enemy Below....and Operation Petticoat.

The Hunley? I think there was a movie for that one. Starred Armand Assante I do believe. No one has ever made a film about the Hunley until that pic, and it was made nearly a decade ago. I guess the reason is that no one was willing to see a movie about ten men who are sent on a suicide run in a ironclad submersible which became a human-piloted torpedo. Talk about depressing! And to boot, they failed the mission.
In the end, though, it was a viable craft and it wasn't until the end of the 19th century and the development of the snorkel and the Diesel engine which paved the way for the "Silent Service."
No, you can't beat Cary Grant!

I agree completely, it was superbly composed and really got you into the story. Did you watch it in German? I listened to both the German version and the English dubbed and found that the dialogue is quite different in meaning, almost like it's a different movie even. The subtitled version finds a good middle ground though.

yeah, if it's an older movie that was originally recorded in another language, i would rather listen to the original language. dubbed versions tend to change the meaning to fit the lip-syncing. Plus it's more fun, somehow. XD have u ever seen La Vita A Bella? now THAT'S a good movie!

I like the country music, but not so much the gospel. While I'm not opposed to the religious aspects of it, I don't really like it either. But if the song sounds good enough, it doesn't matter what's being said, I'll still listen to it ^^

xD I can explain that. There's a deleted scene where Indy basically lashes himself to the periscope with his whip (because apparently Nazis kept their periscopes up. lol). Presumable he unlashed himself and swam alongside the sub into the sub pen. lolz.
