Chapter 2: Letters from the Past
They say that sound carries better in water, than it does in thin air. Beneath the surface, you can hear much more that one would believe – and much more than one would like. Yet there is a peaceful tranquillity that lies only outwith the reaches of air and earth. Freya struggled to understand such a concept. She had no preference for it. In fact, she almost dreaded the pressurized, muffled sensation from the liquid that surrounded her so eagerly. It was contradictory to her own origin, of course. A Zora, semi-Zora as it were, who didn't enjoy water could be seen as an oddity, resistant to their own nature. The stigma would always be present.
Freya lay back in the bathtub and closed her eyes, as the water rushed into her ear canals, filling them with ambient noise. She became aware of her own smothered, hushed heartbeat.

And also thank you for noticing I used the syllable letter! I wanted to make it as believable as possible. I saw the "na"syllable but that's for words like "naught", as you said, and that's false pronunciation for "Termina" so I just used the "n" and "a" separately.
AND, thank you very much for the watch, it's an honour! Hahaha look at me fangirling like this. xD Always super flattering to have an internet hero follow me.

Actually in Hylian it would work for the 'na' in Termina as well, so you could have used it. Sometimes it's hard to explain the sounds exactly with English; another reason why I really need to do a video (or at least) audio lesson on the pronunciation. But I like how you spelled it! I'll probably use that one as the "official" spelling since it's a place name. :3

Oh I could have used the syllable letter? When I read naught, maybe it's just my accent (I'm Scottish) but I say "naught" like "nawt", exactly the same pronunciation. So I figured that by adding "na" I would have made something like "Terminaw" hahaha. xD

See, that's another reason why I need to not only make better use of IPA references, but do at least audio lessons. Maybe even use a better word for the "na" examples that may be a bit more neutral. SO thank you so much for explaining why that one threw you off! I always appreciate feedback. :3

So the "na" also works as "nah"? Aw man, perhaps I should edit the stamp. But I wonder - do you think the syllable letters are also dependent on the word tempo? Since in Termina, the "mi" is shortly said, it perhaps needs a syllable letter to display that? I'm not sure if that works with this language, but I'd love your thoughts on that.

Naa, go ahead and leave the stamp like it is, it's fine! And no, it's not tempo related. It's a bit more simple than that... let me use names as an example first; I'm sure you know how many different spellings the name Amy has for example? How it's up to the parents to decide, but the name keeps it's spelling throughout the persons life- well, with place and people names it's the same in Hylian; it's more a matter of choice.
When it comes to writing normal words, you can opt to not use syllable letters (unless a name/place name calls for them) at all, or cram as many in as you're able to shorten the written words.
Haha Believe it or not, learning German is what helped me work out how to explain some of my Hylian grammar ideas.

Oh I see, that's really interesting. Does slang come into it at all, do you think? I'd personally use syllable letters to match tempo, but I imagine writing a formal letter in Hylian would call for proper use. That's just a headcanon though, hahaha, my imagination is quite overactive. xD

And yes! German is a very educational and literal language isn't it? I'm in language school and I've only a month left there... I'm almost fluent in German. If you'd ever like to brainstorm/nerd out with me over Hylian, feel free! I wasn't so passionate about learning languages until I began this course. I don't have a choice, I moved to Germany so I must of course learn German, but all the same, I'm very invested in now learning languages.
Did you know that a lot of Japanese immigrate here? And learning German for a Japanese person is significantly easier? I wonder if that's because of the logic and structure in both languages, perhaps they are similar in a way.

Late reply is SO late... but yes, I know! I've been to Bonn and Köln so I saw a lot of Japanese people while I was there. Maybe that's why I picked up German so fast when I took the classes over there; I'd been learning Japanese on my own for a while beforehand. It's still a bit confusing, especially since I don't use it much now, but learning German helped me figure out how to explain my Hylian Grammar ideas, at least to myself, a LOT better. Before I just had an idea but I didn't really know how to make it work. ^^
