Minnie and Mimmie get their candy stolen. Lucky for them, they have a loving big brother--who makes sure their Holloween night isn't ruined. The candy thief isn't so lucky.-
My entry for a Mother contest! The characters are Ninten and his twin sisters Minnie and Mimmie (LOL I typed Minnie twice at first). They're from the Nes game Mother, a prequel to the SNES game Earthbound. The picture turned out sooo different than I originally planned. At first, it was supposed to be Ness and his little sister Tracy, but I kept feeling like it was Ninten and I wanted to draw his sisters so I did LOL. After I scanned it, there was no background, and I planned on leaving it that way. But then I added the window, and then I added the moon, and then the curtains, and kept on adding stuff. I liked drawing the lights a lot, and the blood was fun too. I need more practice though! I don't draw creepy/bloody stuff often but I always liked it.
I like to think of Ness as the crazy one, but of all the Mother games, I think the first is the creepiest. .__, so I can imagine Ninten being a psycho too. hehehe.

That's sorta how I've interpreted Ninten. Like "Bad guys are bad and the only way to deal with them is to smash them with my bat until they stop moving." That's what I got from the lyrics to Pollyanna, imagining Ana singing it about Ninten. And it makes the final battle that much awesomer.

But really, I always see Ninten as a psycho/creepy/emotionless kid because of his sprite/powerful physical attacks/bad temper. Ness is indeed the crazy one ahahahaha ~

You'd said you hadn't planned to give it a background, but I'm really glad you did. It definitely helps add to the overall "feel" of the picture; and I just really love the coloring. That, plus Ninten's facial expression, red eyes, and of course, all the blood just help make it even better~. And also because your art style is just really good to begin with, the whole thing ends up looking AMAZING.
I especially love the mixed feeling it gives you. Like, you want to say, "Aw, what a sweet big brother" but at the same time, you know he's freaking psycho. Just... BAMF.
I canβt think of a better way to describe it~.
As a side note, I really love Minnie and Mimmie's costumes. *is a sucker for pretty dresses and angel wings* I -might- just dress like that for Halloween next year. XD
I'm also vaguely curious about if the candy thief might've been dressed in a hippie costume or something for Halloween that night. That'd certainly be something to set Ninten off even more so, ya?

Yeah, originally I wanted the background to be all white and only the window to have color. But as I went along I thought finishing the background and adding more darkness portrayed what I was going for better. n__n I'm glad you think so!!
Haha! Yeah, exactly! it's like... Ninten isn't evil or anything, just a little (okay, a lot) disturbed. And I'm happy you liked the sisters' outfits too! At first I was gonna make one an angel and one a princess, but my sis said it'd be cuter if they matched. So I made them angel princess things. XD And you totally should~ I'm sure it'd be a fun costume to wear.
Yeah, I thought about that too. XD But at the same time I tried NOT to think about the poor kid that prolly just got his brains knocked out... .___.
