I love how you've done their expressions...horses can be complicated that way, since you're basically only working with the shape of the eye, and the position of the ears and the mouth. You've got some good interaction going on here with just a few small changes. The reflections look good, coloring looks good...but it's still mainly the expressions you gave them that sells this, in my humble opinion.
