Uruk-hai, or the Uruks, are the strongest Orcs and known to be the fiercest and most violent warriors of Middle-Earth . The Uruk-hai lives in Isengard and Mordor . However, in The Lord of the Rings novel , the term "Uruk-hai" was only used for the orcs living in Isengard. They were also referred to as "Isengarders." The orcs living in Mordor were called the "Uruks of Mordor," and sometimes, they are also referred to as the "Black Uruks ."

Uruk-hai is a Black Speech term for "Orc-folk." The word "Uruk " means orc, and the word "kai" means folk. According to Christopher Tolkien , "Uruks" is an adapted form of "Uruk-hai" and he acknowledges that his father has used both styles interchangeably.
