Description This is actual history, not alternate reality.

One of the most influential events of the year 1900 was the Boxer Rebellion in China. Due to a loss of prestige at Beijing over the defeats in the two Opium Wars, rebels began marching on the capital. The empress, to save her throne, directed the rebels toward the foreign embassies and offices. An 8 nation alliance of the strongest countries was sent to save the besieged ambassadors.

8 Nation Alliance
United Kingdom of Great Britian and Ireland
French 3rd Republic
German Empire
Austro-Hungarian Empire
Kingdom of Italy
Russian Empire
United States of America
Empire of Japan

The alliance marched into China, won the battle, marched through Beijing in triumph, then departed.

By this time, European (and european derived) states and empires had begun to dominate the globe. Europe's population represented a full quarter of all people living on earth at the time. To explain their new found power, Europeans increasingly turned to racial philosophy. They incorrectly assumed that it was the color of their skin, rather than the caliber of their weapons, that won them the world.

One of the oddest signs of european dominance is the country of Japan. From the Meiji restoration onwards, their country embarked upon a radical program of abandoning all things Japanese and embracing all things European. They even considered abandoning their own language in favor of English.

The other oddity is the United States of America. The largest and most populous of the New world former colonies, tried and tested by the Civil War, ends up conquering the Philippines. The country whose very origin is Independence, Freedom and No Taxation Without Representation; the country which should have been #1 in advocating for the rights of colonial peoples, instead imposes a regime just as brutal as its European cousins.

Starting from 1574 when the Spanish established Manila, the Philippines was subjugated until 1946, a period of 372 years.

The only other countries with that sort of history are Angola and Mozambique.

Here in the Philippines, we start the counting even earlier: 1565 when the oldest Spanish settlement was established (what is now Cebu City). So the figure increases to 381 years.

Okay, I made some changes. Honestly the map is more about China than anything else so I didn't really put too much effort into Africa.

So, here are some deviations i've done of Africa in more detail [link] [link]

Hillfighter In reply to ThousandMaster-Nagi [2010-04-02 23:09:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, It has something to do with the Qing Dynasty. Often the flag is color coded to represent something, either regions or races or both [link]
I've heard that the blue represents the east and that the background is yellow, representing the center, confirming China's concept of itself as the central kingdom of the east

Surprisingly, there's also something else but alternative/fictional history.

Great work!
