Description Medieval Fair, 2009. Coimbra

Harris Eagle (Parabuteo unicinctus). Her name is Nova (portuguese for "New") and she lives in Viseu, according to the man that was holding her.

I had the pleasure to be able to pet her feathers. It was exhilarating and I even wanted to hug her and bring her home! xD

Please note: the featured hand is not mine. Also, I had many people surrounding me and moving all the time, and even a man between me and the bird, so I couldn't get a full-body shot of the bird. Next year I'll try to sort that out in some way!

I got hypnotized by her eyes. Every time I did a click she seemed to look straight at me thru the lens of the camera - and then posed! I know, I know... it prolly was just an automatic response to the click, and not an action filled with intention, but still... I got hypnotized by her eyes and feathers... so soft!

2nd note: sure, here she looks mean, but overall she was nice!

heeey great shot of the a harris mmm i own one my self and i think its a harris hawk not a eagle buteo means buzzerd para mean hawk like so its a crossing from a hawk and a buzzerd the caracter of a buzzerd the looks of a hawk

sorry if i afent you but the guy or girl who is holding the hawk is unaware tuching the fethers of the hawk or petting him can do great damage to its fethers on the fethes there is a oile that protect him from getting wet at a rainfall and if you pet him you brush of the oile and he will be socking wet and cant get dry qick so if you want to pet a hawk just tuch his feet please or his beak but not the fethers he can get verry sick

I don't know the guy personally, neither the person who touched the eagle. Thank you for the info, though.

They sure are intelligent creatures, and all animals are somewhat intimidated by the camera's lens because it's pointing right at them. I'd love to have pet her She's gorgeous.
