The soundtrack is pretty cool and ominous, but sometimes maybe a bit too repetitive. Luckily a lot of it works just as simple ambient noise

Well, the game is kind of Alice in Wonderland-like A girl travels into a weird surreal world in her dreams, only Madotsuki here dreams lucidly, and her dream world is a lot gloomier and more desolate..

That in fact took a lot of inspiration from Alice in Wonderland

But no, Yume Nikki really isn't like Fran Bow, it's a lot more mysterious, empty and eerie. In my opinion at least There's no dialogue, the scenery is even more surreal and weird, the atmosphere is a lot more creepier.. And there's really no direction or story, just one mission; collect all the items (or "effects" as they're called in the game) and you'll get the ending.
