More Or Less HomeLess - old and new shots (v.1) "Silent poverty is just around the corner.
Urban poverty has surpassed rural poverty in importance,
and the countries with the largest number of poor people are middle-income countries,
not the least developed countries."

I wish that the subject was more clear, as others have mentioned. Though I understand why he isn't. The border is what bothers me most, though. I think you should choose one color and leave it at that. It's too distracting, makes my eyes want to travel to those lines.

Hannatar In reply to visitinghours [2007-06-17 16:35:28 +0000 UTC]

I've been meaning to change the border for it because its too messy looking, but to be honest I prefer the black and white border around my black & white pictures as I don't think the plain borders suit it that well.

Maybe try a border similar to this: [link] It's much more professional looking, imo. :]

The slow shutter speed works really well with your concept, depicting how ppl usually just look the other way and go about their lives when faced with such sights.
On the other hand though it made your main character (the homeless man) look a bit unfocused too...

Hannatar In reply to madilar [2007-05-17 11:03:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I agree, I think the main reason for it was how far away I was. I was standing in an alcove around 500 yards away from him and was using a telephoto lens which didn't really make it seem all that clear.

liked the movement idea you gave to everything but the homeless figure .those prices and sales contrasting with him ..

I was kinda lucky with the sale prices by him, but it did occur to me at the time the implications of this. But the movement was planned

Very good concept and capture, and the contrast and black and white reflect the mood very well. Everyday people you walk past in the street can have such differences in lifestyles and appearances, and you've captured it very nicely here.

wow, excellent photograph!! my favorite part is the fact that the man in the background is the only clear subject and the rest around him are all blurring and running around doing everything else - so busy! wonderful photograph!! i love the contrast as well

That really is a good representation of homelessness. The rest of society can go about their lives and keep moving, while the homeless are virtually stuck unless they're lucky and work hard, or if someone helps. It makes me so angry, seeing these things, and then my mother says that it's their fault that they're in that situation. I agree that most of the time it is, but people make mistakes, and I think that we should all try to help them as much as we can, as long as they're willing to take our hep and use it positively, and not for selfish reasons like drinking or gambling. Some of them, I've noticed, have been homeless for so long that they're too accustomed to it to actually want to go back to a normal life. They go day by day. It's very depressing.

I like the message here... not everyone has a place to go. And I complain that I have to share a room with my sister! I'm such an idiot.

But hey, keep up the good work!
