The detailing in this is simply breathtaking. I watched Iron Man 3 a couple of days ago, and simply loved it. The movie was different from the other two, but that's what made it so good.
Anyways, I just LOVE how well you did his face, and the colors, the light effect, his facial expression, his eyes, everything. Simply beautiful.

The arc reactor was so awesome! What's he going to do without it? It helps power his suits, and is a eternal night light. Plus, he'll still have a hole in his chest whether or not the shrapnel is removed. Well at least he won't die without it now.

That's the reason make me thought he didn't remove the arc on purpose for some reason about the past thing like that.
But It was not. Now I wonder why he removed it now.

Wow - checking in on your dA today, and TWO brilliant new (to me!) RDJ pieces.Β This is incredible work.Β Β SO BEAUTIFUL.Β
I'm not really too sad about him removing the arc reactor - I miss it a little, but the whole point of Iron Man 3 was "the liberation of Tony Stark."Β It was a gorgeously scripted movie about a man who is trapped as much by his own doubts about himself (magnified by his comparing himself to the other Avengers -- and also by his near-death experience falling through the wormhole...) as by his armor.Β Tony's armor -- and his heart-powered-by-machine -- have always been metaphors for his heart and soul, anyway -- if you didn't know the real Tony and what a complex person he is, you could be fooled into thinking he was as much machine as man, needing "proof that Tony Stark has a heart" from the one person he really loves, throwing barriers around his heart at every opportunity, hiding behind the "armor" of his snark and wit and fast talking.Β Β
Iron Man 3 shows us a Tony who learns he is very human, who has to rely on HIMSELF and his own inventiveness without the armor -- and who learns, in the process, how to give his protected heart over fully to the woman he loves.Β I LOVE this movie because of all that!Β The removal of the arc reactor at the end HAS to happen, because the arc was symbolic of the machines that ran his life, that he was friends with because it was so hard for him to make human friends, that he depended upon.Β Now he's fully a superhero, because he knows HIMSELF and can share himself with others.Β (Symbolized by the heart necklace he gives to Pepper -- which also has a piece of the deadly shrapnel that was prevented from getting to his heart by the arc reactor.)Β
That phase in Tony's life journey is over - but he faces even greater challenges ahead, in Avengers 2, and those promise to test and possibly break that now-healthy heart of his....

Yes. It's such a nice and understandable ending for end of the series, story of growing man. I get the point, clearly.
But as for me.. the latter part of the movie.. Tony seems like, 'Why not? I quit it'. It looks too simple. And I'd dislike that he removed it less if there wasn't the next Avengers series..
But except that, I love IM3 as a movie.

I'm on the same boat with you. I mean, I get that with technology and everything, it didn't reallly make sense anymore to leave it in, but the arc reactor is what is symbolic about his character. Although, I am hopeful of what KakushiMiko says about him getting it back. I haven't read the comics, myself, but maybe the movie directors have, haha. At least put it in a glass case like the first one that Pepper gave him.

And, hey! there's still a chance he gets the Reactor back in the future :/ like in the comics, maybe...
