Personality/Backstory: Iron Forge was the result of a once very happy marriage. His father, Steel Hoof, was a talented blacksmith who worked at making weapons and armor for the Royal Guard. His mother came from humble upbringings on a rock farm. It was unheard of for anypony to marry outside of the rock farming community, but after meeting Steel, Agate new she was in love. Her parents and Steel has struck up a business partnership. Rock farmers, though known most for their rocks of course, mine gems, minerals and metals as well. Agate knew she would be disowned from her family for choosing to marry Steel, but she didn’t care. The two were extremely happy together for many years. Then, Agate found out she was pregnant. She had always been an extremely feeble mare, and delivering Forge permanently weakened her.
Agate adored her son, but since birthing him had done severe damage to her, she was much more susceptible to illness. She died when Forge was only three.
Forge’s father had always been a particularly gruff stallion with a bit of a temper, but he had never actually tried to hurt his son. Everything changed after Agate’s death, and Steel became outright abusive. He took out is rage on Forge in a multitude of ways, and Forge’s foalhood was dark and hopeless.
This only led to Forge himself becoming a pony full of contempt and rage. He found comfort in taunting those weaker than himself. Besides, if he was the bully, nopony else could ever bully him. But when Forge was thirteen, everything changed.
Forge had a target he particularly enjoyed messing with- Stratus Storm , the quiet and weird outcast. Stormy put up with Forge for a long while, until one day when Forge brought his deceased uncle into the teasing. A fight broke out between the two and Forge ended up severely wounding Stormy, giving him his trademark scar.
However, when Forge’s father came to bring him home after the incident, perceptive Stormy knew something was off. With the help of his own family, Stormy was able to expose Steel Hoof for the abuse. This caused a tight knit friendship to form between Stormy and Forge, that would last for a lifetime.
Forge was put into foster care but he was eventually adopted by a wonderful couple, Altair and Amalthea. The both of them always wanted foals but decided to adopt and help a foal in need instead of having their own. The both of them were astronomers and Forge developed a love for space and stars through them.
As Forge grew older, conflict over his special talent grew as well. He was destined to be a blacksmith, just like his father, but he wanted to separate himself from Steel Hoof as far as he could. Eventually, Forge came to accept this part of him, and actually finds it encouraging to think that his father is out there, somewhere, watching him succeed at his father’s own trade.
Relationships:
Forge prefers not to dwell on the thought of his father too often, but he will willingly tell his tale and how he recovered to fellow abuse victims. Although he doesn’t really remember his mother, he misses her dearly and knew that she must have been a wonderful mare.
Forge adores his step parents. Yeah, they might be a little quirky, but they’re kind and caring and they spoil the heck out of him. They’ve supported him in every way they could and Forge couldn’t have asked for better step parents. He never could have recovered without their help. He loves listening to their random astronomy facts (did you know that the surface of a white dwarf is over 100,000 degrees Celsius?) and has quite a love for stargazing. At this point he can probably name every constellation and all the stars in them.
Forge doesn’t have many friends, but his best is definitely Stratus Storm. Though, he and Stormy would never actually call each other friends, they undeniably are. Forge still feels guilty for what he did to Stormy and is eternally grateful that Stormy did what he did for somepony he barely knew. They’re undoubtedly one of the closest pairs in my next gen.
Facts:
- Forge is bisexual, but in denial. Don't tell anyone but he's kinda into Stormy.
- Forge actually isn’t that great of a flyer. He’s incredibly strong but he’s so heavy that it’s difficult for him to fly very fast. He doesn’t mind, however, and much prefers to be on land anyway.
- Though Forge is in a much better place, he’s still a bit of a hothead and gets angry easily. Thank goodness he has better anger management skills now.
- Forge’s favorite color is pink. Nopony knows this secret.
- Forge spends a lot of his free time at shelters helping other abuse victims on their road to recovery.
- Forge really wants foals. He wants to be the good father that he never got the pleasure of having.
