I changed my pony style again! And they look so much better. I think this style is a lot more original and there will be more variation in body types and face shapes. The old ones in comparison to this are just... ew. They're so plain and lackluster for one, and the anatomy just looks so awkward. So I probably will redraw the bios at some point (even though I will probably never have a bio made for every character), but the information in them is still pretty accurate. Now, about this jerk...

Rusty Bolt came as a surprise to his parents. They'd been dating for several years and everything was going smoothly. They were at a good spot in both their lives and their relationship. They were living together and the future seemed bright. But one day, in the middle of a job, Scootaloo was overcome by a horrible feeling of sickness and her legs nearly gave out underneath her. She brushed it off, thinking she was just dehydrated or over heated, but it kept happening... After a trip to the doctor at Button's pleas, the couple got some startling news. Scootaloo was pregnant. The two of them remained in denial for the longest time; neither of them had ever imagined having kids. Scootaloo had even previously thought she was infertile, due to her genetic disease that was also the cause of her inability to fly. Both she and Button were terrified, especially Scootaloo. The thought of being pregnant had always freaked her out, but here she was... Just barely starting to show. She was also petrified that she might pass her disorder onto her foal (it causes immense growing pains in childhood and the prognosis for survival past ten is low, but Scootaloo surprised everyone and with proper care she is able to live comfortably). She spent sleepless nights wracking her mind for the right answer: should she keep this kid? Button assured her that it was completely her choice; he would respect whatever decision she made. But in the end, she made the choice to carry her kid to term and see what would happen.
Rusty was born prematurely. He was incredibly weak and sickly and had to be kept at the hospital for nearly three months, and unfortunately, Scootaloo's nightmare that she'd pass her disorder on had come true. But both of his parents were immensely happy to have him. They were still afraid of what might be in store for Rusty in the future, but they were glad to have him.
Due to his disorder, Rusty's childhood wasn't easy. He was prescribed all kinds of pain meds that often made him feel sick or drowsy. It took forever for his doctors to find the right dosages and combinations. They even tried complicated pain relieving spells, but those can be incredibly dangerous if used long term. But even through all of the constant sick days and seemingly never ending bed-ridden hours, Rusty had a lot of spirit. He was a spunky kid with a multitude of interests. Although he was pretty weak and got winded easily, he loved skateboarding and would often come home covered in scrapes. His confident and hotheaded attitude paired with his inability to resist a challenge got him into a few fights, but he was a weaselly kid and was usually able to get himself out of trouble. Usually.
As he got older, things started to look up for Rusty's health. He was getting sick less often and he was actually gaining some weight and muscle mass. He was progressively becoming less reliant on painkillers. But when he was twelve, he got some news that both he and his parents had been expecting but dreading: he would never fly. His wings are far too small and weak, not to mention the fact that his primary flight feathers just won't seem to stay in. Wherever he goes, he's often followed by a trail of fluff and feathers. He also never grew in the typical downy that pegasi tend to have (for warmth) or any tail feathers, all of which makes him resemble something not far off of a half-plucked chicken. But Rusty tries to look on the bright side. Because his feathers never grew in properly, he doesn't have to go through the miserable molts that most pegasi face twice a year.
As an adult, Rusty is doing okay for himself. Like his mom, he's an expert mechanic. By the time he was seven, he could take apart an engine and put it back together all by himself. Besides working as a mechanic, he races his custom built motor cars in local derbies. He usually wins himself some cigarette money or something, and he probably thinks he's way more famous than he actually is. Even though he can't fly, he still has a need for speed.
Rusty can be a bit of, well... an arrogant asshole. He knows he's talented and he finds it hard not to gloat sometimes. He has this idea of himself as this handsome, charming, well-built stallion. Ponies just can't resist him; they fall at his hooves. So maybe don't tell him. He'll get his wake-up call eventually. Though, one of his major problems is the fact that he doesn't take rejection too well. Whether that's losing a race or getting dumped by some mare, he needs to learn how to accept that sometimes he just won't get what he wants. He'd probably have significantly fewer black eyes in his past if he realized this, but he's too stubborn for his own good. Rusty is also the master of smack-talking, but his bark is definitely worse than his bite. A lot worse.
Relationships:
Rusty and his mom were practically inseparable when Rusty was a little kid. Scootaloo was constantly paranoid that her kid would come down with something serious, so that was one of the reasons she was always around him in case he needed her, but she also really understood what he was going through. She went through the same thing as a foal and it hurt her to see her own kid so sickly. It was frighteningly similar. But it's not all doom and gloom. Even when Rusty is all grown up, he's still very close with his mom. They have a lot in common.
Rusty and his dad aren't nearly as close. They still respect each other and Button made efforts to spend time with his son, but since Scootaloo was doing most of the protecting and fretting, it was up to Button to do most of the disciplining. This caused a lot of tension between teen Rusty and his dad, but once he'd matured, their relationship definitely improved significantly.
Rusty and his sister, Amber, are... awkward with each other. They couldn't be further from each other in personality and interests, so they found it very hard to connect with each other. But Rusty takes his role as an older brother very seriously. He'll fight for Amber's honor any day, but when it comes to striking up a conversation over dinner... yeah, he'd rather not. There's also a pretty big age difference between the two, which doesn't help.
Rusty's best friend is Avant Garde, the daughter of Silver Spoon and Chip Cutter. She's the lead singer of a punk rock band (playing in a garage near you) and Rusty tried to get in on that when they were teens, but, well, turns out he can't harmonize to save his life. He'll leave it to the semi-professionals. Music aside, Rusty and Avant are hanging around all the time. Their friendship activities include pranking unsuspecting victims, lighting fireworks illegally, and just generally making trouble. They are a force to be reckoned with.
The current object of Rusty's affection is Melodious Notes, the daughter of Sweetie Belle and Tender Taps. Yeah, Melody isn't really into it. Rusty does anything and everything he can to get her attention, but nothing seems to work. Flowers, winning races, hell, jumping off a roof into a pool and missing just enough to clip his wings... He acts like a stupid teenage boy with a crush.
Speaking of crushes, as a little kid, Rusty had a massive crush on Pepper Jack, the daughter of Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich. Pepper was smart, she was pretty, and she was mature. Rusty couldn't help but be drawn to her. And Pepper knew. She definitely knew. Things are still awkward between them.
Facts:
- Rusty has a habit of giving ponies he meets nicknames. He also likes to use old fashioned pet names like doll or kitten. Sometimes it's hard to tell if he's being nice or if he's being condescending... He uses the same nicknames for both.
- Rusty has a pretty bad smoking habit. He started when he was a teen and he hasn't been able to kick it since. You'll find him with a cigarette hanging between his teeth more often than not.
- Speaking of bad habits, Rusty also has pretty bad sleep habits. He lives off of energy drinks and coffee and clocks in on average five or six hours a night. The dark circles under his eyes are so embedded that they're probably permanent at this point.
- Rusty has the tendency to grow hair where it shouldn't be and not grow hair where it should be. It's rare for pegasi to grow random tufts on their tails or legs like he has, but he lacks the fluff and downy he's supposed to have around his face and neck. Also, his tail should be filled in a lot more than it is, but no matter what he tries it won't seem to grow more.
