You can'tmake bread
without
leaven.
It must rise
and rise...
I think,
I see
your face
in heaven...
Too gentle
to have
lived
in this city,
too pretty
to have
walked
here
all alone.
Your laugh,
like a
child,
care-free and
wild
filled our
somber
family
with smiles.
Too many
sad times,
you sat
with me
and talked -
walked
everywhere
a child
may go...
made me
forget
your step
was slow.
You taught
me things
like kindness
when all else
here
was black
with blindness.
People
were mean
But not
you,
stranded in
your world
between
good and
bad...
the times
we had!
I should
remember
the beach
and sand
for now,
it is time
to let go
of your hand
and swim...
When the
earth
stopped
for it must,
you know -
All of us
children
need time
to grow...
you charmed
the devil
to leave you
alone
and the
Savior,Himself,
must have
guided
you home.
Oh, listen!
Your voice
in my grown-up
mind:
You can't
make bread
without
leaven...
It must
rise and rise...
I know
I'll see
your face
in Heaven.

Thank you very much. This is actually one of my very favorite poems I wrote since coming on DA. About my Aunt "Peggy" , another close relative. We were once a large, close family but there's very few relatives left. Some are not so nice and some were my best friends when I was growing up.

My father's family was a big family too and I was close with them as a child.
But when my father passed the way I was not allowed to see my grandparents and aunts and uncles anymore.
But since I'm married we are very close again.

Like I said before my family is the greatest treasure I've and that includes aunts and uncles too.

Thank you so much! I hope that she does feel honored. We were so close and I found the picture of her and me on the day I graduated nursing school. From the time of when I was so little to recent adulthood, she was always there. Thanks again for your wonderful comment.
