Description
I recently decided to try doing something different than usual, so I decided that I would try creating a piece for the DeviantArt 20th Anniversary challenge inspired by an artwork by the artist Loish. When recreating Loish’s piece in my art style I decided that I was going to create the painting on watercolour paper as I have been recently experimenting with using watercolour paints. I first used a ruler to measure out the area for my piece and then I applied some washi tape onto the surrounding areas to separate the area of the piece from the rest of the watercolour paper to prevent the paint from leaking onto the rest of the paper, I then began sketching out the initial illustration in a blue printer-proof pencil. Once I had sketched out the illustration fully, I then drew over the line art using a glass pen dipped in blue-black ink. Once the ink had fully dried I then erased the pencil sketched underneath, I then started applying the watercolour paint onto the piece starting with the background, the lady in the illustration and then finally the rainbow splash effect in this piece which I wanted to somewhat resemble ink or paint in my version. Finally, once the watercolour paints had fully dried, I then applied some gold metallic paint onto a splash effect in the background to create a bit of contrast with the non-metallic colours in this piece.
Overall, I enjoyed creating this piece as it not only allowed me to create a piece using proper watercolour paper which I didn’t attempt previously, but also this challenge allowed me to try experimenting with colours that I usually don’t use in most of my artworks ( those being pastel colours), which I did find a bit of a challenge, as I had to try and find a way to make the colours work together without making the colours sore on the eyes, and also trying to keep the colours used somewhat similar to the original whilst also trying to keep the piece somewhat reminiscent to my style.
