Finally got some fresh artwork up! Yeah, just the one so far, but I have got a bunch more stuff in the work so this is just the start of the next slew, so watch this space ...

AAAAAAANYWAYS ... following on from the impressive success of my new X-23 "redesign" piece, I fancied having a crack at doing my own take on some of my other favourite Marvel/DC superheroes, starting here with my second favourite of the fresh new generation of X-Men, Surge, aka Noriko "Nori" Ashida, a super-powerful but scarred-by-her-rough-past mutant with the ability to absorb electricity and unleash it as a powerful weapon. Unfortunately it's one of those classic more-trouble-than-it's-worth powers, because Nori has to wear special gauntlets (created by Beast) to regulate its flow - if she absorbs too much she can have crazy mental overloads which make her unpredictable, even dangerous, and can even lead to her having massive electrical "blowouts". She's tough, prickly, has a bit of a problem with authority, which has made her a bit of a problem student at Xavier's Institute, not least with Emma Frost, and can be pretty scrappy with her team-mates, but she's also ferociously loyal to her friends.

All in all she's a great character, so I'm glad that I seem to have pulled her off. I liked the design I came up with for X-23's costume, so I decided to turn it into a full-on uniform for the team, therefore coming up with something similarly sleek and form-fitting for Surge. I'm super pleased with the dynamism here - it's a definite put-upon pose rather than something more motion-oriented, but I think there's still plenty of IMPLIED action here. I'm also pretty happy with how I pulled off her "static charge" effects, although that's still a work in progress here - when it goes to inks I'll be able to refine it. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to having a crack at some of the others ...
