If I saw this in an art history book under the Fauvism chapter I'd believe it was an old master, no hesitation.

i love the thick outline forms of the trees and the colours, its like from a slightly creepy fairytale!
Is it just me or does it look like the bird on the right has caught fire on its wing and is propelling down followed by a smoke trail? *giggles*

I am very much digging the contrasty palette, made me realise i only do monochrome stuff nowadays
Why'd you use colored ink instead of watercolor?

Ink is liquid and very concentrated (doh) so it's easier to get strong, uniform areas of color. Watercolors are good for ethereal, delicate layers but require more work, especially when you use pans, like I do. This time I wasn't interested in transparency => ink.
Ink is also significantly more responsive to the salt trick, but this time it failed. Not that I mind, I like how it turned out anyway.
A monochrome is fine too!

Really? I don't remember how you did it and why it didn't work. Now I get it right almost 100% of times. You just have to wet the paper first, then add a generous quantity of ink on top. Even cooler is that with certain brands of ink (the kind you don't have), the color breaks into its components when using salt. From a greenish color I get blue stars on a brownish background ^_^
That other thing sucks monkey balls :/

Not magical, and's not even new. Look for Pebeo Colorex (I got only one bottle, "olive", because the stuff's expensive).
For the salt thing: it helps if you drip the ink straight from the bottle on wet paper instead of brushing it on. Tilt the paper in various directions if you want to cover an area evenly. Don't flood the paper with ink or water, use decent but not excessive quantities. And don't touch the brush except if absolutely necessary.
