To be honest, he is one of the best villains I have seen on cartoons anymore these days. Too bad his saga was so shortly lived.

I hope this isn't the last of we seen of Amon or Noatak. Maybe he can like Zuko. Starting out like a villain only to become a hero. I have hope. Either way great post.

I think Amon is Yakon the bloodbener who got prosecuted in the series by aang and son or Tarlok because he said he would return 1 day to reclaim the the city he took away his bending and somehow he learned how to bend others energy

"Amon" the word has many uses. It is the name of the second deadliest pressure point in the human body. Located on the back of the neck, near the base of the brain stem, a precise strike can be fatal, the same way they slaughter cattle with a boltgun to the neck. Amon was also the first name of Amon Goeth, a notorious Nazi officer who was found guilty for murdering tens of thousands of people, in addition to sniping countless others from the balcony of his house overlooking the concentration camp he was in charge of. The spelling "Amon" is also used in some transliterations. Amon is an Egyptian name meaning "hidden", which may refer to his covered face. He's now one of my favorite villains. But since he was introduced so early in the first episodes unlike Ozai suggests he may not be the principal antagonist or that he's more dangerous than he lets on. Current episodes have truly solidified Amon as my favoriteο»Ώ character. The Equalist revolt seems to mirror that of the Russian Revolution that obliterated the tsar. It also seems similar to the equal rights movements during the 1920-60s. Shares similar traits with Cultural Revolution in China and Communist take over in 1949. However stressing equality as opposed to economic reform. In spite of his apparent behavior, Amon claims to be a staunch believer in what he views as equality. He refers to his followers as his "brothers & sisters", and does not require them to refer to him in any title as they all simply refer to him as "Amon" as opposed to calling him sir, sire, lord or master which suggests he doesn't desire worship or devotion or even political power in the future. There is no better villain than a person that see's themselves as apparently trying to do good.

I'm just gonna throw my hat into the 'Who is Amon?' game before the show decides to say who itself.
First, I don't think Amon is 'energybending'. The only person we've seen do that is the Avatar, and the technique Amon is using doesn't produce the telltale glow. Instead, I believe he is using a different technique more akin to hypnosis. It is important to note that when he takes a person's bending away, he presses the center of their forehead, the location of the body's 6th chakra, the Light chakra. Remember, this chakra deals with insight and is blocked by illusion. More specifically, the ones we tell ourselves. Meaning, hypnosis could fall within the category of 'an illusion we tell ourselves'. What Amon is doing is implanting the suggestion that the person can no longer bend. They now subconsciously believe they cannot, and therefore lose the ability. They still can use it, but the mental block is preventing it from manifesting. Like when Zuko was torn up over his internal conflict and lost his firebending.
Secondly, who Amon is. Technically speaking, it could be anyone, and is likely a new character that Aang dealt with. But a more interesting theory I thought up is that Amon is Sokka and Suki's child. Amon is a master of chi blocking (which the Kyoshi Warriors, and therefore Suki, learned from Ty Lee), is wickedly smart (as much as he was a goofball, Sokka had a brilliant mind), has an excellent grasp of technology (Again, Sokka's influence), no doubt has wealthy connections and a wide range of resources (it's likely Sokka invested in the inventions he and the Mechanist co-created), and most importantly, seems to not only hate the Avatar but benders in general, preferring the power of technology to that of natural bending ability (an opinion which Sokka exhibited numerous times, even tho they were usually in jest). This does not mean that Sokka and Suki hated benders, but if you look around Republic City, we have yet to see one monument to either of them, even tho they were highly important historical figures. Instead, who gets all the credit? The benders of the group. If your father and mother busted their asses in a revolution, to the point that the revolution would have failed without them, and then history brushes them aside because they don't have magical powers, would you be a tad pissed, even if they weren't? You bet you would.
So, there we go. My theory. Amon is the son of Sokka and Suki and he is not energybending, he is using self-shackling hypnosis. Any thoughts?

Hmm....I like your theory XD I was thinking that his taking their bending by Chi Blocking. Since he has his fingers not only on their forehead but also the temples, I figured he created a more "permanent" version, so instead of just temporary it would be forever.

Your hypnosis theory is actually very very interesting, and I don't think I've seen it anywhere else. Congrats for coming up with it, it's certainly one of the more promising ones out there. Personally I'm not prepared to rule energy-bending out of the picture, but this seems very reasonable and I'll keep it at the back of my mind when I watch in the future.

I believe Amon to be in the basic ideal at least that he is right. Equality among the people is needed by this is I'm not naive enough to believe that some cops in republic city aren't being bribed or blackmailed by the triple threat. It would get to the point of superiority complex happening as the triple threat expands to three Major mafia's to this Amon has my vote to a point. However the narrow minded view of everyone being evil for being born is just him being and extremist douche(a bad ass one but whatever). My thing would be if he co-operated with the police and he thought the bending taking away technique(seriously doubt the spirits gave it to him) so it becomes the big 'it' to bending criminals. Everyone working that's equality Amon just wants to bring down everyone a notch xD.
