Beautiful... I am actually from New Orleans myself. I got about 2 feet of water in my house and had to evacuate to Shreveport (in northern Louisiana) and stay there for 4 months. Then I went back to my home in January and lived in a gutted home for... maybe another 2 months or more.
Bleh. Dust everywhere during that time because the workmen were cutting and doing stuff. Our contractor is the laziest dang guy you ever met... lazier than me! >=/ He hasn't come back to us in about 4 months (and last time they barely did anything)! 2 years and our house STILL isn't done. T_T;

But anyways, enough of my ranting. This is a great picture and I'd like to thank you and everyone else for your concern and support in an effort rebuild my home. 8)

This is extremely deep...I was down there two weeks before the floods occurred, so I got to see a little bit of what I so dearly loved. Now people need our help, but notice how Katrina has disappeared from the news? We must not let this happen to such a historical city...Your artwork touches my heart.

Thanks for your comment. I think that the main media forgets about these things as soon as they have something "more exciting" to publish. I still feel very strongly about this, and I am glad that others are still supporting the cause. There are a lot of lives that still need to be rebuilt, and a lot of pain that will never be repaired. Only with our help will anyone be able to recover. Thanks angain, and I wish the best to all those who are affected still.

wow, I can feel the sadness in that picture... very good picture, definitely. I was in florida at the time of august 25th-26th, and I felt katrina slightly, as there were more rain, and stronger wind than usual. But no one knew that it was going to be so severe, so I was kinda shocked when I turned on the t.v after returning to Hong Kong, and learned that thousands had died.
great picture.

Absolutely beautifal! The harmonica is my undoubtedly favorite instrument and you've used it in a spectacular message. The coloring, the emotion, the scenery, the blues! This is definatly now one of my favorites. Spectacular job

i know i already left the comment here but was reading what other people said and something struck me. many people said they been listening to a song named hallelujah. i dunno if they ment the song originally written by leonard cohen, but if so i had the same thought when i first seen this image. i remebered how jeff buckley sang this song almost a capella. it has the same sense of lost, despair and yet hope as this image.

really wonderful job, i still cant shake the feelings it leaves in me.
(sorry for useless mumblings here)

It is so supper awsome that you continue to read the comments and support this work.
I am happy to hear everything that people have to say about this. The song comments are stong to me, because I often draw to songs as inspiration.

For this one: Silent Force by Within Temptation was a major creative factor

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

malicia-dabrowicz In reply to GenoPunk [2005-09-07 09:23:45 +0000 UTC]

yeah Silent Force is a wonderful song, and Within Temptation are amazing. Ive seen them live last year and they blew me away. I was thinking of Jeff Buckley because he not only used to record in NOLA but the Mississipi claimed his life as well, he drowned few years back. There is another song that matches the image which is Down "Ghosts along the Missisippi"- the musicians all hailing from NOLA (among them Phil Anselmo of Pantera) have lost their houses, equipment and had to be evacuated from their hometown. Pretty scarey when you think ofthat song now.

yeah i like to read what other people say. Such a strange habit sometimes.

Hello...
I was wondering if you would be interested in having this or another piece published in an Art Book benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims.

You would retain all rights to the piece and all proceeds from the book (which will be sold at cross-country independent bookstores, galleries, coffee shops, and venues) will go to the Red cross & the Salvation Army.

If you're interested, please let me know at calltoaction2005@gmail.com and view our website at [link]

Thanks and good luck with your art work!
