Description the upper end of the torso, just to show the beauty of the wood.

my most recent work.

a torso following the natural shape of the piece of wood. it is wood of the golden chain (Laburnum), which is very rare and only available in small pieces. on the other hand it is very looked after, as it is extremely beautiful, has a prominent difference between the nearly white sapwood and the dark, highly grained true wood.

I had this piece laying around fro about ten years: so, it was dry.

I did follow the natural shape, but cut the piece in a way that I left parts of the sapwood. It does not nearly turn out as the actual pice. I will try upload better shots later.

entire length is ca. 65 cm.

Perhaps the most beautifull wood I've ever seen.
is it a heavy/hard wood?

Thanks for the comment. It is very beautiful wood, indeed. The true wood is hard, but not brittle. To me it seems, it has rather short fibers. Good to work, though. It is rather heavy as well, I suppose heavier than oak. The sapwood is considerably lighter and obviously softer, but still harder than lime wood for instance. drying is difficult: it tends to split up from the ends. So, I lost over 10 cm on each side due to that splits. Perhaps it would be good to ty wires around both ends and seal the ends with wax.
Try to get some. It is really pretty! stay well!
