Description I've been wracking my brain over the design of this guy for a while now, and like a lightning bolt it struck! I have a few ideas for new characters stuck in my head and this is the guy I kept focusing on. So here he is, Totem!

Background:
Richard "Rick" Tumulth is a member of the Chinook tribe located in the state of Washington. Rick was hand selected by the tribal leaders to be their protector and to inherent the strength of a magical totem pole located in the center of Bay Center, Washington. The totem is one of the oldest standing totem poles known to the Chinook people and grants one member of the tribe immense power in order to help protect the people. The totem pole is made up of five animal carvings. At the top of the totem is the Thunder Bird, followed by the Wolf, the Whale, the Owl, and the Bear makes the base. The totem pole grants the abilities of each totem to the selected member of the tribe as long as he or she is near the totem pole. To help channel his ability to access the powers of the totem, Rick carries stones recovered from around the totem pole on a necklace. This keeps him in touch with the localized power until he can return to his home lands. While tapping in to the power of the totem, Rick can fly like the thunder bird, hunt through enhanced senses like the wolf, swim like the whale, wisdom of the owl, and the strength of the bear.

While wearing the necklace of stones from the totem pole, Rick acts as the protector of his people. He is, Totem!

Nice design as always! Powers remind me a bit of Bravestarr - remember him? No? God I'm so old...

Was that the space cowboy with the metal horse cartoon? Vaguely remember it. God, I'm so old!

That's the one! And let's not say old - let's say 'retro'!

Love the origin and concept for this guy. Ive got a few Native Americans in my own little universe so its cool to see someone else knocking out a few of their own.

Thanks! It was tougher to come up with his design than originally planned.

Really, I mean the look is simple and classic, or were you stuck doing the expected tropes for a while?

I was doing some of the stereotypical Native American designs. Leather boots, tassels, face paint, and the list goes on. I never really liked any of them and finally decided to stay away from them. After that it just popped!

My NA characters will have some of the standard trapping, mostly because I just really dig that stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I think that stuff looks great too. Some of my favorite NA characters are Warpath and Shaman from Alpha Flight

Now THIS is an awesome way to do a Native American hero! I like the concept and the name, in fact I'm a little jealous I didn't think of this.^^'

Thank you very much! Really wanted to stay away from the stereo typical things like feathers and tassels. Really happy with the design.

Good idea. I think this gets as politically correct as it gets! Stays true to Indian heritage, but keeps with modern times

Totemic/Spirit empowered heroes almost always afford the opportunities to do not only the traditional abilities, but one or two unusual and unexpected ones, giving a more colorful feel to the power set than a standard flying brickhouse.
