Thanks ... loads of people seem to agree - it's my most favourited photo. To be honest I'm not sure what its appeal is (over the rest of my images, I mean), but as long as people like it, who am I to argue?!

Believe it or not I used a amgnifying glass attached to my camera with elastic bands and sot the picture in macro mode!

hehe, aww. your macro shots are amazing, hopefully i'll be able to do something like that eventually.

garbagemunki In reply to ambivalens [2005-09-24 13:51:54 +0000 UTC]

I'll let you into a secret ... this set is only about the 3rd or 4th time I have worked in macro. You (especially you, given your success with the notebook photo!) can do it too ... hell, anyone can do it. I think the key is getting close enough, and THAT takes some ingenuity, especially if you have crappy equipment like mine! You should have a look at my journal to see the lengths I had to go to in order to get this to work!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ambivalens In reply to garbagemunki [2005-09-24 13:58:48 +0000 UTC]

oh. i read your journal, and i think i'll have to search the house for a magnifying glass now. my camera is pretty lousy when it comes to macro.. (oh, and if we're revealing secrets. the notebook photo was kind of an accident. i remember taking a few of them to show someone what i meant about focusing. took some time before i realized that i was actually quite pleased with it.)

garbagemunki In reply to ambivalens [2005-09-24 14:10:39 +0000 UTC]

Some of the best things come from mistakes ... for example, there was a guy who made glue for a living, and one day he got distracted, and left the glue boiling too long. By the time he realised, the whole batch was destroyed - the adhesive quality had literally been boiled away, and it would hardly stick to anything. But instead of getting annoyed, he got thinking ... sometimes you don't WANT things to stick permenantly. Sometimes you want something to stick just long enough to remind you to do something ...

And so the humble Post-It note was born. The guy made loads of money from the idea, and helped millions of people make it to the dentist's on time!

Intent is a great and noble thing, but life's not always that perfect. Look up 'serendipity' ... I much prefer that

ambivalens In reply to garbagemunki [2005-09-24 15:44:57 +0000 UTC]

hih, amusing story. is it true? i've never been too good with post-its, i never remember to look at them. serendipity. mhm.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

garbagemunki In reply to ambivalens [2005-09-24 15:52:03 +0000 UTC]

All true ... that's how Post-Its came into being. I guess you might forget to look at it, though ... then you have to write a post-it to remind you to look at the other post-it to remind you of what you had to do! Complicated

ambivalens In reply to garbagemunki [2005-09-24 15:54:19 +0000 UTC]

hehe. i'm bound to forget anyway, i have about the same memory capacity as a spoon.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

garbagemunki In reply to ambivalens [2005-09-24 16:00:46 +0000 UTC]

Depends on what type of spoon ... if it's a teaspoon you only have 5ml memory capacity, but if it's a tablespoon you have a whopping 20ml memory capacity!

lol!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ambivalens In reply to garbagemunki [2005-09-24 18:44:44 +0000 UTC]

hehe. must be a teaspoon, then. i can hardly remember anything..
