Description
I was hesitant about choosing this photograph as a reference, at first. Even though I was immediately drawn to it, I was concerned that it might be too personal, too intimate, especially with it being the last photo he posted online. I just felt as if I didn't quite have the right to draw it, and that it'd be bordering on inconsiderate if I did. However, the more I kept coming across it as I continued searching for the perfect reference photo elsewhere, it just became more and more apparent to me that here, he had such pride and contentment in his eyes. He looked so happy, so at peace. This was Robin the father. He wasn't in public or putting on a performance for anyone, he was merely a father who was holding his daughter in his arms.
As both an artist and as a fan of his, that was my primary goal: I wanted to draw and preserve him at his happiest. So this is my tribute to him. It's far from perfect. It's not at realistic as I'd like it to be, but this is my way of saying goodbye to a wonderful actor who I looked up to so profoundly as a child, and a man who I respected immensely as an adult.
