Description Welp. This is my entry to the Self-MOC off Tournament over on MOCpages. I'm up against Potu and Galaxus, so I'm pretty much as good as dead, but regardless I did enjoy making him. We were given the challenge of making a deity, and it was an interesting one, to be sure.

Link to my opponents, Galaxus: [link] and Potu: [link]
Link to the contest: [link]
Link to the original Potu: [link]

Now, story wise, there isn't much. I based this guy loosely off of Ancient Egyptian type stuff, hence the crook, flail, ceremonial knife, and curved writing stick. So any real details are that Potu here is a priest who was possessed by his patron god, transforming his body. He wields a crook and flail, as well as a curved "wand" through which he can channel his god's powers in prayer, and the ceremonial knifed used in funerals. He also has precious gems inlaid in his armored tunic reflecting his aura.

There is a very long story behind how this guy came about, and if you really want to read it you are more then welcome to: [link] but I certainly don't care if you don't.

I tried a new technique for collages. Still have a few bugs to work out. Tell me if you like it or not.

Looked through Potu's gallery. "Don't think I can count you out if Galaxus is in the same tier..."

Looked through Galaxus' gallery.
You... You're gonna need to hope he chokes. Good luck!

Those legs are fantastic! seriously, no complaints with those legs, right on man.
The midsection could use some work IMO. the way that the red hf armor is attached gives flexibility, but also gaps in the armoring (u can fix it, I know u can )
Those arms have got to be the most boring and overused I've ever seen, you can do better than some technic connecters and hand pieces >:I
His torso is pretty good and compliments his style well, so overall, you did a good job on this one

Thanks man
I'm not sure I can though! XD I'll try to work on that in the future, but I did like the gap there XD
And yes... I know. I could think of ABSOLUTELY nothing better, nor did I have the pieces to do anything better... So they kinda suffered...
The torso was my favorite part though, I'm glad you liked it too

Lol, my brother and I used to love the rahkshi. I have a lot of the old stuff, but not much of it is really useful... And most of it is blue, and red.

Beyond the chain, this MOC could had greatly benefited from more system parts. The writing stick/wand is kinda lame. You've got some smaller parts on the MOC itself so now I'm not sure why you didn't try using smaller parts for his writing stick.

The MOC itself is cool though. Looking at the MOCpages photos there's a lot more going on. I'm with Aiden the photos here are kind of small. We can't really zoom in. As for the layout. Try using an align tool or like I do, keep all the photos a uniform size and then do canvas adjustments to get an even boarder around the photos. Outside of uniformity, your layouts are starting to look like mine.
I really like the shaping of this guy, and brown and red aren't a color combo I've seen much. Kudos to you for that as well. I feel the gold doesn't have enough to justify being there though. If it was just the knife I could understand that, but the couple of bits on his head don't really make sense to me. I like the ears to. Was making them white a conscious decision or was it just what you had?

System parts and I never really got along. I've tested a few things using them and they all look verifiably like a big pile of crap. I'll keep working on it, but you are right. If I could use them properly, this would've benefited greatly from them.

Yeah, I'll try that. I'm going to try a few different things in the future, (maybe) this one was really just a test.
Really? I've seen some brown and red MOCs before... I didn't think it was that uncommon XD And yeah, the gold was a last ditch effort, and a failed one. I liked the earrings too much to get rid of them despite how bad they looked. And... the ears... XD Those were supposed to be bull's horns, but I completely agree, they came off as more jackal's ears than bull's horns. And all I really had to use for that was black or white... My teeth/spike pieces are unfortunately severely lacking...

Aren't you the one with a ton of dusty old system parts in the garage? I admit that I've not found an overly useful purpose for bricks other than filler, but a lot of the other stuff is really useful for detail. What lego's been doing the past couple years though is amazing, lots of really cool small bits I want yet don't have yet.
Well I can tell you that bar and clip parts are stupid easy to work with its a really simple system of its own that provides a lot of functionality to a MOC. Studs can fit into technic pin holes. So really its quite easy to incorporate system The bricks with technic pin and axle holes are a great medium for that to. That's how Matteo's new legs look so good.

Oh yeah...then I'd say you were way off the mark, cause those looked like jackal's ears to me to. And earrings? Maybe if that was done right but here, it definitely wasn't. I couldn't really tell why those were there to be honest. They looked like detail for details sake.

I know buddy, my bohrok eye sypply is pretty limited to.

I am, I was just never much good with them. My brother was the one that was better with them. And they are in the basement, not the garage I agree, those newer pieces are niiiiccceee, but I won't be able to afford them for a long while. I'll work on my incorporating system, but don't bet on anything spectacular XD

Yup, I know I screwed up. I'll try not to do that again, and if I do it be actually good XD

Now if only I could still get some somewhere

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Gale-OneOfMany [2013-04-07 04:48:48 +0000 UTC]

Right. Didn't we talk about trading or buying? I think I had that conversation with too many people and forgot who said what.

YEAH YOU SCREWED UP!!!! JK.

They're one of the cheaper more abundant parts on Bricklink. is supposed to be sending me a package that apparently has a bunch. He's been vague on what he actually sent. And there seems to be hang ups with the delivery. Its kinda why I haven't been MOCing lately. I've been holding off till I got more parts so I can do my planned MOCs better. might just have to soldier on without it for now. I've taken so many MOCs down in anticipation for this to.

LOL, remind me to come to you when I need something remembered

Lol, indeed.

Hmm. Suppose I should get off my lazy hind and actually figure out how to use bricklink huh? Might help out a bit XD But, THAT is why the USPS and I have issues XD Too many things get lost in transit and never get found again. It really ticks me off too, since that always happens to the stuff that we pay through the nose to send to the middle of nowhere... -.-

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Gale-OneOfMany [2013-04-08 11:55:50 +0000 UTC]

I have no life, so plenty of buffer space to remember trivial things. I just get a little crossed up every now and again.

You really should. Because not only is it a good place to buy, but the catalog is great for figuring out where things come from and if you know you got 2 of X then you have X of X, or getting a good sense of what's out there if you wanna plan future endeavors. I'm like you though, not much money, so I make good use of the wanted list where others like Dennis just go buy what ever his well finance(he has a really good job and works his ass off at it) heart desires. I'm slowly figuring out that to find the best stores I really gotta add all the essential stuff I need as well as all the little frilly bits I like to work with as well. I should move on to "ooo that would make a great NPU" and create a list for that kind of stuff to.

Well that's why, you send it out to the middle of nowhere. Do you guys insure your shipments? I'm no expert but from the little bit I've experienced, the post office is another case of "you get what you pay for."

Gale-OneOfMany In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2013-04-08 12:04:47 +0000 UTC]

Hahahaha, or lose them apparently.

Huh. I'll look into that in the future. That'd be nice.

Yes, we do. We take the proper precautions so that when it happens our asses are covered, but still. Ticks me off XD And it does happen with stuff in the middle of the city as well, it's just far more common out in the sticks than anywhere else.

What do you mean?

LOOK INTO IT NOW!

That's good. Hmmm I dunno You'd know more about this than I would. I'm usually on the receiving end of packages and they always get here for me. Guess my post office doesn't suck.

Lol, if you didn't get it the first time, you won't get it the second XD

I'M TOO LAZY RIGHT NOW.

Yeah, some post offices just do suck, and I think I'm one of the lucky ones to end up with just such a post office XD

I already commented on MOCpages and I don't have much more to say here... I'm happy to see that you like mythology too, but that isn't that rare as it was when I started to like it...

By the way, two things:
- I find your MOCs much better than Potu's ones. Or maybe the word would be 'I prefer'.
- You mixed the pages of your rivals.

Gale-OneOfMany In reply to GoldenArpeggio [2013-04-04 16:26:53 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I've always liked mythology. Ancient history was always my favorite, but sadly the school system stops teaching it after like third grade -.-

And lol, Potu has some good stuff and in many ways he is a better MOCer than I am. I don't doubt his ability to beat me in this one.

Well, History is long, my friend, and you can't expect to be always on the Egyptian glory (sadly).

I don't doubt his ability either, but I think you're doubting your OWN ability to beat both of them! This entry hasn't anything to envy Overlord's, and I think the same will happen about Potu's.
