Also, with some of the material for the jackets and pants being thin.. it wasnt as hot temperature-wise as it looked wearing them ..

That is true, but to an extent ..
Not all Zoot Suitors would have the hat on, some only rarely did they ever ..
Even now, in California people wear jackets.
Some of the main concepts of the Zoot Suit, was simply to make a statement, to create a culture of their own. To be rebellious with clothing style, while having a good time and dancing ..
To be a Zoot, it gave them a sense in pride-- Gave the Pachucos and Pachucas something to believe in ..
It was great to be a Zoot Suiter back in those times .., that is ... until the navy personnel came back from the war ... then it was a severely dangerous time for any Mexican-American to show a sense of style .. The Navy soldiers would bust open your house or rush into the theaters just looking for you if you were Mexican .. they didnt care .. The Mexican-Americans tried to defend themselves, but it was no use-- the papers and articles on the news would show in favor of the navy seamen saying they were right to do all that they would do .. There are a lot more positive as well as it's negitives as for being a young Pachuco in the 1940s .. There are still original Pachucos around and moving today .. from back in those times ..

The sum of both, I am currently looking around the internet for images and facts for what I may or may not know concerning The Pachucos / Zoot Suitors. I am doing 2reports for my class, one for each .. As a part 1 (Los Pachucos)& 2(The Suit).
I was searching and found your sketch, I was glancing to see how accurate it is.
The drawling is really good so far, I am wondering what it may look like as a finished product.

I dunno. I may never get around to doing a finished work of it. I just drew it for a friend because I thought he'd look rilly rilly hot in a Zoot.
and an interesting factoid, when i was researching for the sketch, i found out that most Zoot Suiters always wore the jacket even in the California summers when it's nearing 100.

a little bit of both, sorry[haha]
but no they tried, when it gets to 98 or 112 .. you take the jacket off or you'll sweat really really bad .. but there were jacket vests under the jackets so still had style ..

A Suit Zoot
Worn by the Pachucos.
These suits were to show style and class.
It was the Pachucos and Pachucas way of standing out, a way of self expression.
They first made the headlines in 1943.
The fabric was expensive, as it were to be charged by the inch.
Pachucos were in the time made alias by these suits. Suit Zooters, they were looked down upon as hoodlums .. All they really wanted to do was dance to music called "Swing".
The fashion was rebellious, the style and way of dress was against everything that the naval military stood for. With this brought great anger from the navy toward the Mexican-Americans. Any Mexican-American caught in a Zoot or dressed with style[showing class] would be victimized, attacked randomly by these navy "people" who were only back from the war that was going on in Europe, since the navy was and is apart of the government, the headlines[news papers] were in favor of the military .. So even though they would torment and search for these Mexican-Americans the papers[news] still saw it as that the Navy were in the right of what they were doing.
"The whole thing is wrong, they say that we were the ones causing all the trouble .. We weren't the ones rioting, all we wanted to do was just have a good time and dance while looking nice for our ladies and creating a new look for our people .., it was the navy who rioted against us.."
There is plenty I know and can say about the "Era of the Zoot"
A modern-day example of what a Zoot Suit is, ..
"The Mask"[MOVIE] - James Carey (yellow suit)
---------
Pachucos are Not gangsters, they simply are Mexican-Americans . . Who wanted to make a name for themselves, wanted to form a place and culture of their own .. They didn't fit well with the American Standers, yet didn't exactly fit in with the Mexico-Mexicans .. they are also commonly known as the "Half-and-Halves"

zoot suits were worn by gansters in America during the late 40's and you see them in a lot of old movies and musicals.
