EDIT: Per suggestion, slightly thinned the lips a little bit, and lightened the skin tone.A drawing of Aburame Shino from the manga Naruto, depicted as a bit older, perhaps in his 20s or so, definitely Jonin level.
The shades look a bit... futuristic because the reference pic I used (that some may recognize) is Cyclops from X-Men 3: The Last Stand. That black stuff in the background is *supposed* to represent his insect minions... but I'm not sure it turned out all that well.

I suppose so. I think it's because the clothing I gave him didn't seem very Naruto-ish so it was hard for him to figure out it was Shino. I recall the words were, "You just slapped a Naruto headband onto Cyclops..."

LOL Geez. whoever made that comment surely isn't a Shino fangirl. Though I think I would have given him paler skin and a less full lower lip... It would distingish him from Cyclops more and make him look more like Shino.

I suppose anime characters in general don't tend to have full lips, do they? In his defense, I did base the drawing off of Cyclops, so up to a certain extent, his criticism was valid. Thanks for the tips, though!

Except for girls. The anime girls (especially those that wear lipstick) can have pretty full lips. And no problemo with the tips. I'd love to see an edited version of this piece

I think the smoothness of the lineart probably helps with the "pro" look. It's actually a very simple trick that helps make your artwork look a lot better (if the lineart is clean). Basically what you do is you duplicate your lineart layer, and make the new duplicated layer "fuzzified" by giving is a gaussian blur, anywhere from 0.5 to 3.0. Hope this helps!
