I'm actually quite happy with how this turned out
It's Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye from Fullmetal Alchemist. I just love this pairing.

Coloured in Photoshop, took about 2 hours. Linework was done traditionally with pencils.

Fullmetal Alchemist belongs to Hiromu Arakawa, the bespectacled cow.

Edit: I almost forgot... the reason for the title as explained in the description of the line work deviation:

When I first decided on this title I was a little worried that it might be cliche or a bit corny. So, I asked for a friend's opinion. Here's what she, ~Hitotsuboshi , said: "It's really quite relevant in their case, not just because it's true, but because it makes a direct reference to their promise--Roy entrusted his back to Riza, and Riza promised to stay behind him as support and, if necessary, an obstacle to whatever darkness may emerge from him."

Later she also said "Now that I've seen this, I think it's not only the fact that she's behind his back that's significant, but how close they are together. Because it really isn't as if she's just a distant bodyguard, is it? There's nobody closer to him than her, and probably vice versa."
