Mimi scarred me more than 02...
The scene in where she transformed was f***ing macabre.

how did they even get her transformation sequence past the censors? She vividly snaps her neck and spider legs come out of her throat all while her body just dangles! Again how'd they get all that past the censors?

Super creepy! Her spider legs look awesome! I also like how she looks like a cracked porcelain doll; makes this even spookier!
Really great job on this!

It seems that she also was robotic - see seemed to have gears and shit in her when you flipped to 3d and looked at her side.

I made the call to ignore that when drawing her, as I couldn't quite work out how exactly she was meant to "work", conceptually. After all, a little girl turning into a spider is WAY scarier than that spidery little girl also being a robot.

Soooooooo, A game where a void is about to destroy all worlds, so many losses including Luvbi, Squirps, and Tippi. Some of the cutest characters in the entire Mario series turn into something disturbing and just odd like , Mimi,Luigi, and Dimentio. And the Light Book
was only made to flip the Dark one because the dark one is the true fate. Yes a children's game.

It's actually more for people who appreciate the game for it's story and don't bitch at it for stupid mistakes that their own damn fault.

fryguy64 In reply to KoolCartoons [2012-12-29 17:13:27 +0000 UTC]

The story and characters are OK but they don't make up for the awfully repetitive and boring gameplay. And I stand by this opinion strongly. Feel free to have a differing opinion to mine, but don't assume the fault lies with the player. If a game is boring then that's the developer's fault and not the player's. Especially if the target audience is Mario fans, of which I am a considerable one.

KoolCartoons In reply to fryguy64 [2012-12-29 21:51:49 +0000 UTC]

The the gameplay isn't repetitive and boring, that would applied more to previous rpg game where you do the same thing repeatedly.

And I believe The Thousand Year Door is more fun than SPM just putting that out there so you don't think i'm hating on the previous.

I saw your review and most of the complaining consist of something that was your own fault.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fryguy64 In reply to KoolCartoons [2013-01-01 23:17:10 +0000 UTC]

I'm curious. What was my own fault? Running on a treadmill for 10 minutes rather than look it up on GameFAQs? Having to enter Please 5 times because I didn't look up the 25-part code on GameFAQs?

I find RPGs fairly dull generally, but the first two Paper Mario games, plus SMRPG and Mario & Luigi games are exceptions. I enjoyed them because they had fun characters and stories and a few action mechanics thrown in. Super Paper Mario should have been all that and more, but instead I was bored of running back and forth (I intentionally carried out the sequences of events you would use without cheating for the review) and bored of the plot that was both nonsensical and took itself too seriously.

I'm pretty sure I only played through it the first time to see Francis, and even then I couldn't quite believe what the game asked of me. I've actually suffered through it 3 times now. Once on my own, once to help an equally frustrated girlfriend beat it and once for the review. It tastes more bitter every time.

KoolCartoons In reply to fryguy64 [2013-01-02 00:02:01 +0000 UTC]

You could have avoided all that easily if you looked it up online or had an actual guide.

Yeah trying to put the game in a bad light because, your time with it was bad even though most of the bad moments you mention could have been easily avoided.

You run back and forth in the previous RPG too, so nice defense.

Yeah because having a plot that gives emotional depth and moments for character is so nonsensical. And just because it was more darker then most Mario entries does not mean it took itself to seriously. I bet you just want Mario games to be all about saving Peach. You sound like those They Changed So It Sucks crowd.

Not the games fault that you suffered through it because you sucked at it, the game isn't even that difficult your exaggerating at this point.

fryguy64 In reply to KoolCartoons [2013-01-02 08:14:23 +0000 UTC]

*facepalm*

I honestly can't comprehend how incredibly badly considered your main point is: I suck at the game because I DIDN'T cheat by looking up solutions on a guide? I could have easily avoided the moments by cheating? That doesn't place the blame on me in the slightest! That's a sign of a badly made game

My argument isn't, and never was, that the game was too difficult. It's not. It's just drawn-out and boring if you choose not to cheat. Worse still, I even make reference to the shallow challenges you can easily skip with GameFAQs IN the review you claim to have watched!

As for the story, I didn't use nonsensical in a derogatory way. It's supposed to be nonsensical. You fight a farting musclehead, get chased by a little girl spider morph through a mansion where you play a gameshow in a toilet, and face a giant chameleon with kitty-cat robots who tries to date Peach. The nonsense is pretty much the only redeeming thing in this game.

My argument isn't just that the story is too dark for the Mario world, it's too dark for the game world specifically presented in Super Paper Mario. It goes from wacky to super-serious in a very jarring way. Paper Mario TTYD did some darker moments well so it can be done, but it was too frequent and not done half as well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KoolCartoons In reply to fryguy64 [2013-01-02 15:56:47 +0000 UTC]

But in the end of the day it was your choice to go though that mess, the game didn't force you do it, like in TTYD where you had to find the missing "p" it open that you could have easily avoided it, that's not a badly design game it's called taking the easy route or the hard route.Lot's of games do that, that's why game guide exist.

I could say the same for other Paper Mario games as well there many moments where cheating might be the best option.

Wow, so I guess not having great villains, emotional back stories and plot, genuine heartwarming moments, Peach kicking as, isn't a redeeming point.
LAME

And the freaking main plot of Super Paper Mario is saving all worlds from destruction, it was petty obvious it would get dark. And been if Super Paper was more darker than The Thousand Year Door that doesn't mean it wasn't done half as well.

fryguy64 In reply to KoolCartoons [2013-01-03 01:06:17 +0000 UTC]

Cheating is only the best option to overcome frustrating game design. There. Done. If you think cheating is part of the gaming experience, you are ridiculous. No argument on this. You are simply wrong. It is something we do when we no longer want to do the things the game wants us to do. The temptation to cheat in SPM was very high, I will admit, but I've never had to cheat in a Mario game or even a Mario RPG before, and I didn't intend to start with this one.

But regardless. I'm done debating this with you. I'm glad you enjoy the game, but I don't understand how. Perhaps for you it's more about the plot than the challenge, while for me the challenge is paramount in all games I play. That would explain why you are happy to cheat to progress the story, rather than try to enjoy the gameplay, and why most of your points have been about how much you like the story and characters.

You know... rather than constructively discussing the gameplay itself (without resorting to simply cheating), which was 90% of my review that you're trying to defend against.

Buying a guide is a sign of defeat. It's not something to be proud of.

That just silly, quit acting so self righteous over a freaking video game.
Thee's nothing wrong about taking the easy route of a challenge. And if your too bull headed to accept that, then that your problem and your problem alone.

And quit assuming because it's not the story enjoyed but it's gameplay as well.

I had fun fighting the awesome and unique bosses trough out the game. I also had fun jumping on enemies doing stylish moves. As well as going trough levels with awesome music. So I don't understand the nonsense coming out of you mouth.

fryguy64 In reply to KoolCartoons [2013-01-03 08:08:23 +0000 UTC]

If you enjoyed the gameplay, you'd defend the gameplay rather than saying you skipped it using a game guide. You're not taking the easy route, which entails something possible within the game (like finding a warp zone). You cheat, by referring to external sources to skip the tedious portions of the game. You might as well use an Action Replay for infinite health or get someone else to beat those bits for you, but pretending that's how you're supposed to play the game is absolute nonsense.

Hell, I cheat in certain kinds of games because I enjoy the story more than the gameplay, such as the later chapters in the Phoenix Wright games. The difference being that I accept I cheat and that's not how the game is supposed to be played.

You are also acting self-righteous and bull-headed about a "freaking video game", which is hilarious. The stuff coming out of your mouth is ludicrous nonsense to my ears, so get off your high horse and stop pretending you hold all the answers, because you don't.

I'm not even arguing with you about Super Paper Mario any more. Enjoy it if you like and how you like. I don't give a rat's ass. But your ridiculous cheating defense is so horribly laughable and yet you keep trying to make it.

Yeah because skipping one part of the game automatically means skipping the entire game? Your annoying self righteuousmess is coming out again! "Hurdur thaz nos howsx to playse a gamesxsx!!!!!''
Highly annoying.

Funny how you commenting on me being that way but your comments are getting more groan worthy as I continue reading them. Nothing but endless bitching.

Your pathetic bitching is horrible laughably you love to exploit things more bigger than they are.

The only time it's really even necessary to cheat is only in 2-2.

No you can't. I tried answering your points honestly at first, despite your rudeness, until around the fourth insulting reply. At which point I just lost my patience with you. You were rude in your first post, you were rude in your YouTube comments, and you have been constantly rude and childish throughout what could have been a constructive discussion. Hell, you even tracked me down on here to have a pop at me for my video because I didn't reply to your YouTube comments.

My opinion of the game upsets you because I based that opinion on an honest playthrough and not on skipping over the challenges with GameFAQs. I don't understand what point you're trying to make, as I address this in the review. But it still upsets you. I appreciate constructive criticism, such as pointing out the things I could have done better that may have made me enjoy it more, but telling me to cheat through the game to get past the unnecessary backtracking parts is not constructive. It justifies my main argument, if anything.

So, are we done here?

Someone has to call you on your bullshit. And I wasn't insulting you I was insulting your flawed logic.

THE ONLY PART WHERE IT'S EVEN NECESSARY TO CHEAT IS 2-2.AND IF YOU WANT TO BE SO SELF RIGHTEOUS YOU WOULD DO SOMETHING OF A PART OF A GAME YOU DIDN'T LIKE INSTEAD SKIPPING OF LIKE ANY SANE PERSON WOULD DO THAT YOUR IN DAMN PROBLEM.AND THE GAME DOESN'T EVEN HAVE THAT MUCH BACKTRACKING.

No, we're nor.
