Description This was inspired by the most fantastic [link] from ~Lokai2000

First I wanted to try something very similar to check rendertimes but then I got carried away... I also wanted to test the new "Wild Hair" available at DAZ... LOL... I hope you don't mind...

@Lokai Just to give you an idea why I was so surprised about your rendertime, this was rendered in 20 minutes for 4000x3000 pixels including depth-channel. The focal blur was applied in photoshop using the calculated depth-channel and the lens-blur-filter.

Tools: Poser, Cinema 4D, Photoshop

Very cool image! Now your render time... was that in Poser or in Cinema? I've heard very good things about Cinema and have been itching to get my hands on it exactly for that same reason.

Fredy3D In reply to arien [2005-12-13 19:44:31 +0000 UTC]

Rendertime was in Cinema of course. I use Poser only for (like the name says) posing... and of course for characters and clothing... Scene setup, lighting, rendering etc etc is all done in Cinema.

Four years ago I used an alternative solution to replace the poser render engine, I was using Poser4Pro at that time and was wating for a poser version which was not coming... So I bought C4D 7 ART and started to import my stuff into C4D. The stability (rock-solid!!!), the ease of use, scene management, render quality and speed made me a big fan of C4D. Since then I am continously updating and upgrading. It is my tool of choice... It is expensive, but you get what you pay for...

Take a look at the PSD-multilayer render-output or the new hair module. Fantastic!

BTW an alternative could be the new Carrara 5 from Eovia... we'll have to see...

Thank you! That's exactly the kind of information I'm looking for. I've got Cinema6 CE, came free with a magazine, and while I haven't explored rendering or lighting in there yet, I've been looking into modelling. So far it's the only modelling program that I've "clicked" with, which is another reason for me to consider it. But it's Β£399, for the upgrade, which is a HELL of a lot of money for me atm. We'll see, but the more I look into it, the more I'm thinking it's my safest option, as the quickest rendering time -nevermind modelling when I get to it- would pay for itself

Totally awesome job Freddy. Yes was wondering about Lokai2000's rendertime too. I once put a ton of lights on a picure and turned on raytrace with lots of bounce plus shadows and the rendertime went from 5 min to 2.5 hours. Found it faster to render with no shadows and then render shadows only and composite in photoshop using blending layers.

Maybe Lokai2000 turned on radiosity calculations, does Cinema have that? I know in Shade if you try to turn on radiosity calculations for poser figures it looks like the machine froze. Later I read an article that poser stuff imported into shade regular makes it go very slow on the radiosity calculations.

Sorry on the double post, Devart was acting up. But I totally agree on the optimization. Since I have limited time for doing renders I'm all into timesaving main reason I don't set up full scenes is I sneak in art time after the kids go to sleep.

I really love how you have your figure's skin.it really glows nice It looks lit from within is that Cinema settings or something you postwork?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Fredy3D In reply to AreeElf [2005-12-12 19:46:29 +0000 UTC]

C4D has Radiosity, Global Illummination, HDRI, Ambient Occlusion - whatever you want... If you switch all of it on - yes then it get's slower of course... You are right regarding postwork, I'll always check on where to use postwork or spend some extra time for the renderer.

One lesson I learned: Optimize your scene! If you spend an additional hour to optimize scene, textures and settings you will be granted with an much faster rendertime...

Alright, i *had* to take a look at a picture that could inspire *you*!! I must sincerely say that it would be very hard to choose between the two - i'm glad i don't have to!! Your strongpoints are the phenomenal lighting and effects that really make this image looks so magical and moody!!

But.... why it had to be a priestess?!? First a monk and now a priestess... No luck here either for a poor vampire (naga)!! LOL!
