Description This fursona named "Misty" (c) leticiaprestes 2014

I've made a journal feature for Leticia, who won my 10,000 pageview kiriban.  A traditional artwork was also offered as part of the prize, and I finished this drawing yesterday.  Fortunately, I was able to locate a color scanner today.  I thought the scarf and feathers added a nice touch to this, seeing as they indicate Misty's movement.  I used a few fox pouncing pictures as guiding photo references, but this pose is different from each of them.

By reading the description of the fursona reference sheet, I noticed that Misty, as Leticia's fursona is known, is proficient at hunting and fishing.  You can find the reference here: leticiaprestes.deviantart.com/…

Basically, Misty has been exploring an area near the edge of a forest.  It features sparse rock formations which have developed grassy coverings and display only their side faces.  The ground around these rocks has some scattered patches of taller grass, which should contrast more than it does i the drawing.  Anyway, some sort of rodent has chosen to hide out in such a patch of grass.  Misty has managed to pursue her prey there through the use of her adept hearing and sense of smell.  A female red fox of the golden coloration, she's now launching off a rock to pounce- will she catch her target?

Materials used:

Canson Medium Tooth 9x12 inch 50lb sketch paper
Staedtler HB, 4B pencils for initial sketch and lines on Misty
regular 2B pencil for intermediate sketch work
Set of 24 Prismacolor Premier Art Stix (woodless colored pencils)
^these don't include shades of gray, hence the unusually colorful rock formations

Time taken: 3 hours
EDIT: This was slightly touched up in PS CS4 with the dry brush filter, to help smooth out areas left with small blank spots from the texture of the paper.  It's hard to tell unless you're looking at the full-resolution version, zoomed in.

To recipient:
I hope you like this!  Misty seems to be quite a bright, adventuresome fursona.  I especially like your pictures of her which incorporate such diverse themes as balloon flight and Christmas tree lights, while also experimenting with varied poses in the other pictures.  It's really cool that you can code in Flash, too.  I look forward to seeing more of your fursona art.  Perhaps your watchers will even see the quiet or timid side of her in the future.

P.S. for all:
If you favorite this, I'd appreciate hearing from you in a comment.  Thanks!

aww thank you so much! this is gorgeous!

I adore the way you did misty's pose in the moment of the jump to catch this prey!

and I think it's very smart to use mixed colors on the rocks, with the strokes of blue to show depth

You're very welcome.  I hoped that you would like her pose and the theme of this drawing.  The more I know about a fursona/character, the more thought I can put into designing a picture.  I'm working to improve on how I draw rocks.

sure I like it all!

I'm planning to do a rock tutorial for digital drawings soon, but I never tried to draw rocks on a paper...
