Chapter 2: Journey
Scene: A Forest Encounter
I plan on working this into the main storyline as soon as I write storyline for the intermediate scenes which precede this one. It just so turns out that my art sequence is far ahead of my written sequence. In this scene, Keilidh meets Douglas in a forest, as shown. Naturally, there's a lot of storyline that takes place first.

In this drawing, I tried to capture the concept of leaves blowing in the wind during a rainstorm. It lends a lot of motion to a scene, so I wanted to add it to this drawing. I enjoyed making the stormy sky in this drawing, as it allowed me to experiment with a lot of brushes. Making the trees was also an interesting challenge. However, I found the greatest challenge in this drawing to be the portrayal of the poses. Anatomy and proportions become more difficult when one has to draw multiple characters and have them each be similar to each other. I plan to take some time to study anatomy diagrams before uploading my next scene, so that I can improve.

this is definitely my favorite out of every single drawing. the detail of the leaves blowing in the wind is magnificent and the trees have spectacular detail. i liked the pose of the fox on the right the best. but my favorite part was how the rain seemed to make the grass and the sky blend together. it's truly beautiful

Thank you for the comments. That pose was hard to accomplish. And I think I used the blur filter in photoshop to make the rain have a motion blur effect. It's a useful tool.

Oh, and the one on the left isn't really a fox. Keilidh made this journal about most all of her fursonas changing over time.

She included the four main designs, but these are a few variations.

And here is the main reference that I actually based the drawing on.

I hope this makes things a bit more clear.

Well, thanks! I am trying to actually improve past this style. I'm very reliant on grass brushes for the entire ground, and tree leaves are just the oval brush. Thanks for adding me to your deviantWATCH! This way, you'll be sure to see when I come out with my next drawing sometime soon hopefully.

This is really cool xD I like how the leaves bring a circular motion into the picture; that's a great use of aesthetic manipulation! The bg is also really cool ~

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that I can do aesthetic manipulation. I actually didn't think that much of it at the time. And it's nice to hear that the bg is really cool, because those are usually a weak point for me. I actually have a WIP with a kind of similar perspective on grass and the sky above.

Well, all you can do with bgs is observe the artwork of other artists! *purplekecleon has some excellent examples that I often reference from, as does *ShadowUmbre .

Regardless, you captured the flow of the image very well! Will the chapter be officially shown when silky/verli reply? I believe both are quite busy at the moment, especially given with how verli injured her leg seriously a few days ago and silky's new job.

This is a very green picture lol. I like how you drew leaves in the wind; it's kind of unique. I don't see that often in drawings.

I always merge all the layers in photoshop at the end, and then I adjust the vibrance, saturation, hues, and more using the tools in Photoshop CS4. It allows me to sort of get a color scheme that I didn't have before. In this case, I tried deep greens to capture the idea of what grass is like in a rainstorm.

Thanks for the comments on the leaves in the wind. I thought of that as one of my favorite touches in the drawing. I selected an oval brush and set high angle jitter and spacing. Then I used motion blur on the sets of ovals.
