I think that the shine was perfect! It sort of... gave her more character, made her look lighter, as if she herself was glowing.

Haha, maybe. Either way, it's a beautiful portrait. And your English is fine. Not everyone grew up speaking English as a first language, and I took French in high school so I know how tough it is to learn another language and get everything perfectly right.
