Can you help me with a picture? I wanted to make one of Phoenixlight (orange she-cat with white on her paws, ears, tail, and some of her snout, and yellow eyes), while she was sitting in the forest looking up at a blue moon (litterally blue) with some blue rays shining down on her. I can't do it. Can you help me with that? I'd be very thankful? I love your pictures, by the way. So realistic....

Hey, nice use of color!
Try to have a definitive source of light. It will help to give your piece a sense of depth and roundness. Also, with that definitive source of light, never forget a cast shadow. It's what gives an object relation to another object (i.e. cat on grass)
Keep it up man! And don't forget to always use reference. It'll help you get used to the way things really look, and in turn, help you when you really need to "make stuff up."

Thank you for the comment ^_^
Ah yesss, the lighting. That was a mix of problems - the references of the cat were a pain, it had this very soft dark fur that didn't reflect anything, only the white areas did. SO that was true to the originals, but doesn't look right. I was also aiming for one of those bright mornings with a lot of light. I was also trying to constrain myself to a 'nice' painting/gift.
But I would do it very differently now, and thank you VERY much for actually mentioning the problems.

I think that's the way it is with a lot of work--we do it, we see what we could have done differently, we remember it for some other time. But I thought this was very well done. Even when they're older, it can be hard to let go, y'know? A lot of the appeal in this was, for me, emotional.

As long as one learns from everything one paints ^_^... yes, I do that, usually. And thank you.

Thank you so much for adding fav.
This is a nice meditating piece, I love your treatment of the watercolory background, maybe you can bring some of the wonderful colors onto the fur of this cat, and maybe the black and white isn't too obvious but have some subtle color variation, and I'm positive that it will make the foreground even more vivid looking.

Thanks!
Hmmm, you may be right there. The problem is the cat's fur was so black that it just absorbed all the light, but I could do more with the white bits. Or stop trying to be true to the original...
