Stunning London photo, is it possible to use it for an undergraduate prospectus that I'm designing for the University of East London. It has a 60,0000 print run and I'll make sure that you're credited and posted several copies once printed.

I like this one. Square works well, what camera did you use, medium format, or did you crop it? The scene is well balanced with the young man in the foreground giving interest and balance to the anonymity of the crowd in the background.

Such an amazing, sort of spontaneous looking shot. You make me want to dive into photography more than ever.

Something just occured to me. What did you use to take that shot? My interest is sparked because of the square print. You werent using a twin reflex perchance?

I enjoy this piece a great deal. You seem to have captured the 'essence' of the moment. I"m a screaming post modernist, can you tell? Something that adds to your piece is the arrangement of the people. I know you cant exactly tell them where to go but the way they are holds to the japanese flower arranging technique of triangles. There's something about this, not only does it add depth but 'soul'. Alot of ephemeral words today, I know.

With reference to the question above "do people get annoyed when you picture them", it really depends. If you look like a tourist people dont mind much, but that's already been said. I never photograph kids, ever, there is just too much baggage associated in that department, I'm male and it would just look bad. Crowds sometimes will disperse but if you're quick people dont mind. Essentially it comes down to the vibe you're giving off. If you're sweet looking then its not a problem. I"ve only ahd people charge the camera down once. In Australia at least you are allowed to photograph a person in public, I dont think they have to give their permission. However if you're going to make them the focus, it's nice to ask.

Bit wordy, sorry.

I can't offer anything substantial, but I will say that I love this. I love this style of street photography and you're always spot on with it. Great capture.

I like your street scenes. They're busy and active, but there's a focal point to sort out the chaos. And, of course, your tones are amazing. If you develop these yourself I am so envious you have no idea.

do the random people get mad if you take pictures of them?
I've always wanted to do that but I was afraid of them like rushing me with sticks and stuff :/

chenderson In reply to princesswasted [2005-04-19 21:05:44 +0000 UTC]

I've found that people don't usually mind if there are all sorts of others in the scene. They mind even less if you look like a tourist. Sometimes they give you weird looks if it seems to them that they're the only one in the shot, though.
I do feel nervous shooting kids if their parents are around. I'm afraid one of them will have a psychotic mother that will come after me.
