Mutation
Clairvoyance: Has the ability to see and communicate with the deceased. Clairvoyance is in constant effect and only in very rare instants will Anika project the spirits to others. This manifestation can be relayed through possession or even the spirit's visual presence. Due to her strong sensitivity to the apparitions, Anika will detect when someone has died with ease.
The spirits that she is in contact with are simply shades. They're husks of who they once were incapable of emoting.

Anika's mutation developed incredibly early. So early that it's initial stages began at birth.
Her family originally was a nuclear one consisting of her Mother Alexandria, Father Joseph, and older brother Jason prior to her conception. As Anika entered the world, her mother left. Her death was completely unexpected. Coming into the pregnancy Alexandria was healthy and even at the hospital that faithful day nothing seemed unnaturally wrong. Her brother, Jason, was only three at the time. The only one left truly devastated was her father, Joseph Schultz.
Growing up, she was an odd child to say the least, and no one had expected the possibility for her to be a mutant. Her nanny would always notice her staring off at nothing and the scribbles she drew were not at all normal for children. Graphic bloody depictions of death, but she only drew what she saw. She spooked several of her baby-sitters and people talked.
As soon as Anika was old enough she went to a private girls school. By now she knew that she was most certainly different and people would always judge. So she stopped caring what others thought of her somewhere along the way. Anika became more and more introverted. More of her time was spent writing or talking to ghosts. She preferred their presence, despite gruesome appearances they were far more honest and easier to get along with without emotions getting in the way. Since a young age, Anika was inspired by the stories of ghost and what happened to them. She would draw them, write poetry about them, and even seek out spirits.
Life went on, and the only time she spent at home was on the occasional holiday. Even then she didn't converse much with her family. Her father still cared, she could tell that much, but her brother was a complete stranger. They were only a year apart, and yet having gone to different schools for so long made them distant.
She felt different from of the two of them. She was a mutant, they were not. The only other person who knew died before the secret could be told. Her mother, Alexandria, was one as well. The only reason she knew, was because her mother had never truly left her. It was odd having a ghost for a mother.
Durring the beginning of her sophomore year another student died. There was an uproar and the entire school had been buzzing with news for weeks. The girl's name was Colleen, hit by a drunk driver while walking home from a part-time job.
Like most spirits, Colleen intrigued Anika. So she did the same that she did with most spirits. Drew her, wrote about her, but most of all she wanted to hep Colleen with unfinished business. Apparently the dead girl had fought with her parents the night before. She wanted to quell their worries. So Anika insisted she write a letter for her parents. Unfortunately, things had not gone as planned. When placing the mail, she was misinterpreted. The housekeeper believed she was stealing the mail as had happened before.
The police became involved and the letter was uncovered. There was many different thoughts about the situation from those who knew. Some thought she was sick for posing as a dead girl and others thought she was a friend trying to do some justice. Anika just didn't want them to know she was a mutant.
Her father had forced her to come home as Anika had to recover from the catastrophe, but in the onslaught he discovered the drawings... the writings... He then realized his daughter wasn't well. She clearly had some sick obsession with death. In order to "cure" his daughter, he appointed psychologist after psychologist. There came a point where Anika had to pretend she was "getting better," but Anika wasn't sick. She knew that and her mother absolutely did not want her to tell him.
Alexandria told her daughter to flee. Seek out the school for mutants she had vaguely heard of.

There has been a steady rhythm of droplets along her window for over an hour now. Anika had no doubt it would be raining throughout the duration of the night. She had been completely absorbed in her research that time flew by. She still hadn't had supper.
Anika leaned back in her chair with eyes still stuck on the lit screen. She silently sat in debate wondering if she would pull another all nighter. This was the second time this week she had accidentally became distracted by the temptation of bizarre internet articles. With a hefty sigh and unchanging face, Anika pushed the laptop closed. She spun to the window and stared off at the trees being pelted by unrelenting rainfall. She stared off at the landscape like it would somehow solve her problems if she stared intensely enough, but it wouldn't. She was smart enough to know that.
Oh, he was still out there.
She leaned forward pushing the creaky panel of her window with trained ease. A cold gust of wind whipped at her face as she peered through. He was out there hanging on the tree just like yesterday. Wordless she lifted her arm to wave at him. Still no response.
It was a work in progress.
She drew back from the window closing it. She pushed her abandoned computer chair meticulously back into place. She past by dead mom who had been hovering over her the entire time and left to go start the coffee pot.
With one last passing thought Anika wondered, would anything still be open...?
