Description Here's a list of my top 10 favorite Tim Burton movies. I'll be listing them from 10 to 1 right here.

#10.) Dark Shadows- Though it's new to Tim Burton fans like me, this film is a comical take on the gothic soap opera from the 60's, and one of my favorites. Johnny Depp plays a silly, but tragic vampire who was put under the ancient curse of an evil witch and tries to restore balance to his modern day dysfunctional family. It also has a special guest appearance of Alice Cooper, who Barbabas calls, "Ugliest woman I have ever seen."

#9.) Edward Scissorhands- It's a sad movie about being alone and feeling unwanted by the public. It was also the first film where Burton casted Depp in the leading role. Even though critics like Siskle and Ebert didn't like it (because their review was unjustified), it's still today a Tim Burton classic. It also stars Winona Ryder as Edward's love interest and Vincent Price, who Burton idolized as a child and casted as the narrator of his first animated short, Vincent, as the inventor of the title character who died before he finish him.

#8.) Frankenweenie- Also a new project which I really enjoy watching again and again, it's based on a live action that Tim Burton created. Basically this film is a kid friendly stop-motion animated retelling of Frankenstein. It's funny, scary and has loads of memorable characters in it, besides little Victor and Sparky the dog. This is also another film with the voices of Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, and Winona Ryder.

#7.) Alice in Wonderland- Most of you would probably turn to the Disney animated feature, but this is more epic than any other version of Alice that I've seen. This a dark and twisted telling of the Louis Carrol classic, about our title character returning to Wonderland to stop the evil Red Queen, played by Burton's wife Helena Bonham Carter, with the help of the Mad Hatter, played once again by Johnny Depp, and the White Queen played by Anne Hathaway. What I like about this film is that it not only makes Alice a stronger character, but it also recreates the Hatter, and both queens into three dimentional characters. It's also one of the last Michael Gough performances before his death.

#6.) Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street- If you're familiar with the story of Sweeney Todd, or seen the opera, then you would know that this film is about another barber played by Johnny Depp, who was persecuted and banished unjustly by an evil judge in order to steal his wife and child, and sought revenge against him, while he murders his customers and has his partner in crime, Ms. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), make their corpses into pies. This is an awesome gore fest of musicals, without even Danny Elfman composing.

#5.) Batman- My favorite version of my favorite comic book superhero, next to the Animated Series. Even though Micheal Keaton didn't look much like the part, he still was able act the part out. And his performance would definitely put Christian Bale's performance to shame. I also think that Jack Nicholson's performance as the live action Joker was perfect, he knew how to play his role, funny and menacing at the same time. Plus you got to love the sound of Danny Elfman's theme song. The film was the first movie to keep in the dark and serious spirit of Batman.

#4.) Sleepy Hollow- A darker and gruesome take on the Washington Irving story. It's the third time after Ed Wood, that Burton casted Johnny Depp as the lead. Depp's character of Ichabod Crane was changed from a school teacher in the original story and into a comical constaple, sent from New York City to investigate decapitations of some of the most important people in Sleepy Hollow. Soon realizing that the murders were commited by the Headless Horseman Of Sleepy Hollow! It's a very great movie and the first horror film to be created by Tim Burton.

#3.) Corpse Bride- You may see it as just a poor rip off of The Nightmare Before Christmas, but this is yet another amazing film about love and a Grave misunderstanding. I can see that Tim Burton really loves Johnny as much as his wife, so he casted him as the voice of the leading man and Helena as the Corpse Bride herself. The film also has Danny Elfman as not only the composer and song writer, but as the voice of a skeleton named BoneJangles. It's just another fun and entertaining Tim Burton classic.

#2.) The Nightmare Before Christmas- The ultimate of all Tim Burton classics, this is a film about the King of Halloween who discovers the world of Christmas Town and decides to steal the role of Santa Claus, not knowing about the consequences it would have on the children of the world. It was a short story that Burton wrote, then with the help of Henry Selleck, he was able to make this into a very successful stop-motion animated feature.

Before I get to Number 1, here are some Honorable Mentions:

Ed Wood

Big Fish

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure

9

Batman Returns

#1.) Beetlejuice (of course )- My favorite Tim Burton movies of all time! As you can tell by the count of fan drawings I do. When I was a kid, I actually saw reruns of the Beetlejuice cartoons on TV, and loved everyepisode of it, with it's imaginative world, characters, and humor. It's a show that really blows my mind with it's awesomeness. But when I saw the movie, I was abit surpsired to see the title character was actually the villain, not just a typical wise cracking con artist who loves pulling pranks, but a psychotic killing phantom who tries to force the goth girl, Lydia (Winona Ryder) into marrying him. The film was focuses more on the previous owners, played by Alec Baldwin and Gena Davis, who died in a car accident, came back as ghosts and have to share their home with Lydia and her family. Since they fail to scare them off, who do you think they turn to? So I really enjoy this film, even though it's underrated. But it still holds up today with his dark humor and performance of Michael Keaton as the lead.Β

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is my favorite. It is WAY better and more accurate to the book that 1971's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Why are you not into musicals? Not every musical is like cats, or legally blonde, or that awful judy garland crapfest called the wizard of oz. The wizard of oz is the only musical i personally despise so far. Because it's not like the oz books by l Frank Baum. But there are many dark musicals that you should look up. Like jekyll and hyde, Dracula, bat boy, evil dead, the toxic avenger, little shop of horrors, the rocky horror picture show, assassins and a whole lot more dark musicals.

Don't know how to feel about Sweeney Todd, it shows in the movie(especially the song Johanna) that he grows less motivated by revenge and just wants to slit throats, even almost killing his daughter and unknowingly killing his wife, and instead of blaming himself for his accident sooner goes after ms Lovett, yes I know Im still debating on whether or not Lovett purposely misled Todd on making him think his wife was gone just to have him( basically what the judge did)

i didnt like planet of the apes at all. he didnt get to use his creativity with that movie... couldn't make it his own.Β

Mars attacks to me, was Β incredible. I am not much for alien movies, but i can watch that over and over again... it has a great cast and really awesome martians.Β

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, in my opinion, stayed very true to the novel, between tims version and the original with gene wilder, i couldn't tell you which i preferred the most, they were both incredibly well done. i love the visuals in Charlie, so bright and colourful, yet so Tim! it was perfect.Β
