Description A little love deviation for the shield-holder creature of my hometown "Basel" in Switzerland -> The Basilisk, which is said to have lived here when the town was founded...complete with a gaze that turns people into stone. There even was a cockerel that was officially executed around 1400 because it/he (!) laid an "unholy" egg they where afraid of may gave birth to a basilisk.
Ahhhh good old mythologies and superstition...

Amazing
Seems like the guy wasn't fast enought to slain the beast, everything just happened in a blink of an eye    .Ok, this joke was terrible I just couldn't fight the urge to type it.... anyway, I think it's awesome, this background has so many details then it make me wonder if it's based on a real place. The basilisk is also very cool, it's so fluffy   and vicious   at the same time, I like it a lot   , the statues and shading also are breath taking.

Marvelous image! In the mythology of petrifying creatures, be they basilisks, gorgons or cockatrices, is it just the body that transforms, or the clothing, too? Most images I see show the clothing transformed as well, but I always thought that was a bit strange. Clothing could not a frightened by the creature's horrific visage nor affected the magic that turns organic matter to stone.

Basilisk is one of my favourite mythological creaturse. My country has few legends about basilisk living in the basement under the old building. It's one of my favourite legends. Amazing picture! I admire your talent. I like the idea of ivy growing on the knights's 'sculptures' created by basilisk's glare. And the creature itself looks very pround and powerful.

Thank you for the kind words The basilisk is one of my favourite legends as well, altough the ability to turn people into stone is just a variation among many. Glad you like the painting, even if it is quite old already

It's wonderful! Especially the long, curling tail.
