Description Second part of the three day event entry entry based on 'She's Like A Rainbow'. Charlie rides BH Gannymede in the BDS CCI Three Star Classic. She has awesome purple gear

-----

"I wish she would lighten up about all this. She's not the first person to get kicked out of their parents' house," Charlie said as he watched Jemima ride Radio off to the small warm up area.
Emily nodded, but didn't add anything. The truce with Jemima was, at the moment, too precious and delicate for her to risk damaging it even by an unheard suggestion that, possibly, she was overreacting a bit to her situation.
"I know it's hard," Charlie continued as he fitted Maddie's boots while the groom stood nearby, cleaning Radio's stall out, "but if she's really finding it this hard she knows she can ask us for help."
Emily remained silent, and didn't even nod at this. She wasn't exactly sure what help she'd be able to give Jemima - true, her wages covered her living expenses but she was increasingly inclined to move in with Tom if only so that she would have some money for anything else as well. There was a fat chance of Jemima asking Emily for emotional help as well.
"Well, maybe not you," Charlie added, apparently conceding to Emily's train of thought without actually knowing she was thinking it. "But she could ask me, or Marion, or even Aaron if it came down to it. She's just making a rod for her own back," he said, sighing.
Maddie was fully prepared now, and Charlie slipped her headcollar off before taking her reins to lead her out into the sodden Scottish landscape.
"Maybe that's what she needs."
"Huh?" Charlie turned, confused by Emily's quiet statement, stopping Maddie half out of the lorry.
"Maybe she needs a rod for her back," Emily repeated, looking up from her task. Charlie stood in silence, holding on to Maddie's reins only lightly and ignoring the big horse's irritated swishing tail, staring at the small woman in confusion. "Maybe she needs to do something for herself. Maybe she wants to make it hard."
There was silence for a few seconds before Emily spoke again.
"You'd better warm Maddie up. That or get her out of the rain."
Charlie nodded, silently, and led the mare out. As he mounted up and started warming the mare's slightly stiff muscles, he turned over Emily's words in his head again and again. Did Jemima want to make this hard for herself? Sure, she'd been a bit spoilt, but she'd had to do things for herself, hadn't she? He tried to trace what he knew of Jemima's history back as far as he could, and all he could really remember where the outbursts and the relaxed, fun Jemima. The outbursts, he realised as he popped Maddie over a practice fence, could well be seen as tantrums. The relaxed, fun Jemima could well be seen as a Hooray girl. She had always had everything. Maybe she wanted to have nothing for a while, just to see what it was like. Or if not to see what it was like, to see if she could manage without everything on a plate.

This is a great pose! My only comment is that the rider's head looks a bit big in comparison, but otherwise it's a lovely piece.

Thank you! I'm having so much fun with the shading on these pictures. Hopefully the third picture (which is on a sunny day) will be a nice contrast to these dark and damp ones - I want it to look bright and colourful (like a rainbow! )

Thank you, I shall try I don't think I'll have the courage to do every picture like this from now on, but it certainly is a lot of fun to play around with colours like this

The green highlights work well to make everything look slick and wet.

Thank you That was the intention! I wanted everything to feel sort of blue-green as that always makes me think 'wet'. I'm so pleased it worked
