Names: Stygian Andor Sætansen, commonly known as Morthian (named after his father and grandfather). Some other siderians may use his official name Andor.
I tend to call him SAS – after Scandinavian Airlines (or Sætansen Airlines...) – because of his name abbreviation as S.A.S. and his airplane ears. However, later I learned that his siblings also have the SAS abbreviation, so Stian seems to gather quite an airline fleet
Species: siderian (a northern, horse-sized tiger-oriental cat-lynx like feline)
Gender: male
Birth place: the Ancient Sætansen lands in the central Fjordlands (Norway), however, his parents moved back to their home territory in the Northern Fjordlands and that is where Morthian grew up.
Birth year/date (relative to Stian’s birth year): +48
Death year (relative to Stian’s birth year): +175 (he got 127 years old, which corresponds to 97 in human years).

PERSONALITY & CHARACTER
Personality and mannerisms:
Myers-Briggs personality type: ISFJ-T (the "defender/caretaker")
Soft, friendly, kind and gentle in his approach to other siderians but also towards anything else in life. He’s very open minded and doesn’t really judge. He generally has a positive and non-violent approach to problems/challenges. He likes helping others and has quite a caring, responsible personality. Is very trustworthy, reliable and respectful of other’s wishes. Can appreciate some (quiet) social contact but he also needs moments of solitude. He values his family a lot; his mate and daughter mean everything to him.
He is calm, quiet and rather silent. However, once he opens up, he can talk quite a lot. Is quite sensitive and a bit insecure, yet he doesn’t present himself as such. Is quite occupied with what others think of him and has quite some self-doubt regarding his identity and sexuality. He initially internalizes this stress but needs to ventilate it with someone whom he trusts (his mother, mate or brother). He can’t just stow his emotions away and harden like his siblings.
Generally not dominant and very tolerant but he doesn’t allow others just run over him or mock him. He quickly feels awkward in sexual situations and doesn’t like being flirted with. He tends to go away when he is teased for his (lack of) sexuality and sometimes slightly feminine manners, but when (often flirting females or macho guys) go too far, he clearly marks his limits in a polite way.
He has is own way of carrying pride, which is different than his father and sisters. He doesn’t hesitate to ask others for help or advice but learns to take pride in his kindness. In his work as a healer/nurse, he’s quite patient with injured siderians but this patience runs short when others deliberately bother him or disrespect his personal space. Despite his sensitivity, he can work quite well under stress and can temporarily take enough emotional distance to do his healer work. However, the death and suffering that he witnesses as a healer often affect him quite badly afterwards. Fortunately, that is often outweighed by the many lives that he helped saving.
Type of humor: he likes using nicknames for his mate and daughter and sometimes teases them a bit with it. Otherwise, he can be quite playful with his friends and family. Can come with sharp comments that are meant humoristically.
Voice, manner of speaking: quite a deep throat-voice with a little ‘tremolo’ and a certain sharpness. Quite like his father, but slightly lighter and a little softer. He’s quite silent but can get talkative with friends/family. Has a gentle, calm way of speaking that gives trust.
Sexuality: mostly asexual and mostly heteroromantic but he can find other males attractive in an aesthetic way. He quickly feels very awkward when anybody has a sexual interest in him and doesn’t appreciate anyone obviously flirting with him. That one time that he tried to mate, he embarrassed himself so badly with his clumsiness (he has a direction-problem) that he only tried it ever again with his permanent (equally asexual) mate Mineuh. After they had their daughter Rose, they may never have engaged in the ‘classical’ form of sex ever again. He can still be quite intimate with Mineuh but in other ways than through copulation.
Spirituality and philosophy: his philosophy is to approach any living being with kindness and to always think the best of a situation or a person. Is loosely spiritual and believes in the forces of Nature and the power of his ancestry.
Fears: losing his mate or daughter and leaving behind alone. He’s ok with solitude but doesn’t do well with loneliness.
Dreams: saving as many siderian lives as he can. He dreams of a normal siderian life without having to battle invading humans but is quite content with how his life went. Wishes for his descendants to be happy and safe.
Interest, hobbies, occupation:
He works as a healer in his father’s Fjordland Force (an organization of siderians that fights against invading humans). His task is mostly to assist siderians in recovery and give them medicines, other necessary care and mental support. Occasionally, he’s active in the First Aid group as well. He is very passionate about his work and sees it as his duty to save as many siderian lives as possible.
Already before his work as a healer, he had an interest in plants and now he uses that interest to search for medicine plants.
He also likes playing (mental) puzzles and enjoys to do that together with his daughter (and his adopted daughter).
Special skills: his calmness and understanding of others makes him a good care-taker for injured siderians. His keeps his head cool in stressful situations and remains stable and reliable.
STORY
Always on the move
Morthian was the last born of Stian & Vivanna He was a bit of an afterthought and was born on the Ancient Sætansen lands when his parents were paying their last visit to his dying grandfather Morten . They didn’t stay long and travelled back to their own homelands in the Northern Fjordlands. Morthian didn’t remember this travel and all that he remembered of his first years, was a lot of moving while his father was away. He couldn’t remember much of what his parents call their “home territory”.
He learned about the threat: humans
He was a quiet, gentle cub with a silent curiosity that he shared with his 8 years older brother Jay , with whom he was quite close. During his childhood, he stayed mostly with his mother and he learned that his father was leading fights (the Fjordland Force) against humans. He didn’t know what that meant but he figured that that was why there were so many siderians around and why they were moving all the time. His father was always busy and the few times that he was with him and his mother, he was exhausted, cold and distant. His elder sisters (Ekster and Siri ) seemed quite occupied with his father’s activities and their bold, determined nature intimidated him at first. However, he found good company his brother Jay and his friend Torstein who were both shyer than his sisters. When he was eight years old, his family returned from the fighting activities to what they called their “homeland” and took some rest. For him that was just one of the many lands that he had seen, yet he tried to absorb the impressions and make this feel like his home too. They didn’t stay for long and a year later, he was yet again travelling south along with other siderians from what he learned was ‘the Fjordland Force’. His father had briefly explained about what this Force was and what humans were. Occasionally, he got to see a dead human brought in by his great-grandfather Matthias . Based on their looks, he found it hard to believe that humans were dangerous, but his father’s stories and the sight of injured siderians made him believe it.
An interest in healing
He was ten years old when the Force went back to the Ancient Sætansen lands to attack the human settlement nearby. When Matthias got shot and died soon after, he became painfully aware of the human danger and noticed how this loss made his father even more stressed. There were some heavy missions that followed and Morthian mostly stayed with his mother and the other cubs who travelled along. He had made friends with some of the quiet kids and the friendship with Torstein (3 years older) got particularly strong. His sisters were already joining many of the missions and seemed equally fanatic as his father. Morthian didn’t feel this fighting drive inside him; he rather got an interest in his mother’s work. She was healing and taking care of injured siderians and he often joined her.
Growing insecurity
However, he realized that he was the General’s son and carrier of the mighty Sætansen name. When he tried to find out what it meant to be part of this Dynasty, he felt the pressure grow to be like his father and sisters. He felt that others expected him to become a great fighter too; equally strong and brutal. Especially when he reached puberty, that insecurity sank in. He didn’t feel any of this; he couldn’t hate like his father and sisters, despite the human cruelty that he witnessed. There was a kindness inside him that opposed this violence and he felt even stronger drawn to his mother’s healing work. He was shy and even embarrassed about his gentle feelings and only told his mother Vivanna and best friend Torstein about it. His mother explained about her deceased father Yves ; she hardly knew him but all she remembered was his warmth and kindness. Morthian was just like his grandfather and he should be proud of it. However, his insecurity stayed and he remained occupied with other’s thoughts. Even his shy elder brother Jay was braver and more masculine than him. He was taller but didn’t feel the same strength that he saw in Jay and other males. Yet he sought closer contact with his brother and to his surprise, Jay understood. Jay had gotten into rescuing injured siderians and was not into brutal fighting either.
He was different from the other guys…
Throughout his adolescence, another insecurity grew stronger; his sexuality. He had seen his father and horny macho uncle Goran do it and he thought that it’s the norm for males to be equally sexually active. Yet he found the thought of mating awkward, if not repulsive and he was equally puzzled by the fact that he could find other males aesthetically attractive. During his late teenage years he tried to mate with a sideress once but it turned into such an embarrassing failure that she broke off the attempt altogether. He wondered whether there was something wrong with him and he didn’t dare to tell anybody except his mother, brother and best friend. However, one night his father approached him and told him to follow his own path and just be himself, independent of what others do or think. That gave him the boost that he needed to become a healer and recovery-caretaker (aka a nurse), like his mother. He still wanted to follow in his father’s tracks and support the Fjordland Force’s actions against humans, but in his own way.
A special sideress
There were more heavy missions ahead and he got to practice his skills seriously. One problem was the regular female attention and any flirting made him very uncomfortable. However, there was one sideress named Mineuh in whom he had a special interest. She had been around for a longer time and he had silently admired her, even though she was older than him. When she got shot during a mission and was brought to the healers, he realized how intense his feelings for her were. As she recovered, she seemed to have picked up his interest in her and a flame was ignited. Yet, his insecurity welled up again and he asked his mother for advice. Fortunately, Mineuh was not like most other females and she was not interested in sex, which made him feel comfortable around her.
Becoming a skilled healer
Their relation was getting stronger. Mineuh worked as a fighter but outside the missions, she helped him search for medicine plants. They both prepared for the biggest mission ever; the largest human settlement of the Fjordlands. During the mission, he joined the first-aid group but he wasn’t prepared for this shock. His sister Siri was brought in, fatally injured. She was beyond saving and died shortly after, leaving her four years old daughter (Tiba) behind, since her mate had fallen too. His parents Stian and Vivanna had adopted Tiba but Morthian and Mineuh often took care for her as well. Despite the death of several siderians, the mission was successful and the Fjordlands were declared as mostly safe from humans. Morthian and his family travelled back home in the North and allowed themselves some rest. Meanwhile, Morthian and Mineuh had tried to come over their mutual obstacle and finally, Mineuh got pregnant. Still, Morthian often struggled with female attention during his healer-work. Quite often, horny sideresses expected him to be as good with sex as his father, given his handsome look. Fortunately, Mineuh stood up for him.
The birth of his daughter
His father kept screening the Northern Fjordlands for any residual human activity and got unexpectedly shot through his light armor. Thanks to his mother, uncle and great-cousin Yava , he survived and recovered well. Soon after, his daughter Rose was born and they could enjoy the calmer period. Even his father allowed himself some rest and family time. That period didn’t last long and Morthian joined when his father went on a mission to Ancient lands to prevent humans from establishing again. They were quickly back in the North again and the human situation was deemed under control. Morthian was delighted to see how close his daughter was to his father and how Siri’s daughter Tiba enjoyed playing with Rose and his friend Torstein.
The inevitable
The Fjordland Force activities were not entirely over; his father and a few others kept screening the remnants of human villages near their homelands for any humans to return. Morthian always stood ready in the healing center, and so did he this time. Nobody had expected much trouble but then the news came. The General was shot dead. Morthian couldn’t believe it. He had always seen his father as immortal. But the sight of the bloodstained, lifeless body of his father confirmed what he never dared to believe was possible. He couldn’t even think of telling his 6 years old daughter, who loved her hero so much. Also his sister Ekster had barely survived trying to save their father. It was Stian’s closest friend and counselor Toro who temporarily took over the position as General. The Fjordland Force came together to pay their last tribute to Stian as they buried him on his homelands. Little Rose couldn’t fathom the fact that her hero would never come back and his mate Mineuh had lost herself to rage. She was to take revenge for this on her own and for the first time in his life, he fought with her to stop her. He couldn’t allow her rage to kill her in doing something reckless.
A spark of anger
The death of his father tore his feelings in two directions. He couldn’t hate and he wanted to avoid unnecessary violence but all the suffering that humans had caused made him puzzled and he noticed a spark of anger towards them. He saw how murderous they were to siderians and many other animals and he agreed that their numbers had to be controlled. That spark of anger supported that, yet his gentle nature couldn’t allow excessive violence. But he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and safeguard siderian survival, so he stayed in the Fjordland Force as a healer, no matter what (see here Tension in the Morning Air ).
His sister’s fury led the Force
Meanwhile his sister Ekster had recovered (except from the clearly visible scars in her face) and had become the new General. She fanatically mobilized the Force and rampaged every single human settlement that tried to return to the Fjordlands. But that is not where her rage stopped. Similar fighting forces had emerged in the Lowlands and nearby areas as well and she sent subdivisions of the Fjordland Force to help them. Ekster even helped to claim one of the ancient metaclusters* (a place where siderians live closer together because of the high density the crystals (ecals) that they use for various purposes) in the Roaring Mountains back from humans. Morthian and Mineuh joined every mission and meanwhile, Morthian found himself growing closer to his brother Jay again.
In memory of his father
His daughter Rose still suffered from the loss of her dear grandpaw but the arrival of a similar aged cub Fiodor delighted her. They got along very well and as Rose was growing up and reaching adolescence, she began to develop an interest in healing as well. With Ekster’s fanatic fighting, they were not so often back on their homelands. But once they were back Goran, Jay and Toro retrieved Stian’s bones and mounted his skeleton in the Fjordland Force headquarter as a final tribute to their General and family member (this may feel morbid, but this is a way for siderians to build memorials of remarkable individuals). Morthian, Mineuh and Rose often spent time there, retrieving memories of Stian. Meanwhile, Morthian’s mother Vivanna had passed away from old age. He had always found support and understanding from her and her death made him feel more exposed, despite his own family.
The battles raged on
Rose and Fiodor’s friendship had turned into a relation and their first son Kirten was born, who was followed by their daughter Bynkah , eight years later. Already from a very young age, Morthian saw Mineuh’s fury in Bynkah’s personality. His sister Ekster was still leading the Fjordland Force, fueled by her rage. The risky actions began to stir resistance in the Fjordland Force. Morthian also began to fear for his own mate as well. She was his everything and he couldn’t imagine losing her. Yet she remained confident and motivated and he failed to express his worries to her. His uncle Goran was also still active as rescuer and had taken a hard blow to save his sister from getting shot in battle. Morthian and many other siderians realized just how much her hatred had begun to blind her. It worried him, especially after his uncle Goran had left the Force to retire. He knew that Ekster found a lot of support in his wisdom and now she was even more turning into a loose cannon.
She no longer safeguarded the camps before she sat out on missions and had recruited most of the camp patrols into the fighting group. Morthian had never expected that his best friend Torstein would pay the price for the high risks. He was shot just outside the camp and he passed away in a matter of minutes. The healers were powerless; Morthian could only watch his best friend die. What was most puzzling was that he was shot with arrows rather than bullets, which meant that humans had been very close. Morthian and many others were angry with Ekster and she was visibly shocked. Yet in response, she hardened herself and held even more fanatically on to her hate-driven course of actions. Morthian himself had a hard time continuing his work without his most trusted friend.
His worst fear
Ekster’s rage seemed to inspire his granddaughter Bynkah as well and it pained him to see how also her life was characterized by fighting against humans. By now he had seen so much suffering and he realized that each siderian whom he helped, he sent straight into battle again. And sometimes, they didn’t make it back. That is the pain of a healer that the fighters didn’t always understand but he shared with his daughter Rose. Ekster’s missions got very confrontational and despite his father’s work to safeguard most of the Fjordlands, many siderians still risked their lives following her violent course. The fury of his mate kept worrying him as well. And once, she didn’t return. Ekster had brought the news of another human invasion and he went searching for her. He found her lifeless body covered in ashes. His whole world collapsed, and grief sank in over the family. Particularly his granddaughter Bynkah was badly affected and infuriated. Morthian’s own sorrow made his healer work impossible and he retreated himself from the Force to mourn.
Finding courage again
He found it hard to find the courage again, but as he spent time with the memorial of his father and thinking about the deaths caused by humans, he found his motivation again and went back to the Force with Rose, Fiodor and Bynkah. His grandson Kirten didn’t participate and that had led to a fierce conflict with Bynkah. Again, he saw how the fighting against humans drove families apart. Bynkah had now become a brutal warrior like his sister. Ekster’s rage went out of control when the Force attacked the reestablishing humans in the place where his sister Siri had died. Morthian feared the worst and indeed Ekster was brought back, so badly injured that she passed away a few days later.
A better course
Morthian sought contact again with his last remaining sibling; Jay. Together they decided to stay with the Force and remain loyal to their father’s course. Ekster’s son Crystellar had now taken the position as General. He was calmer than his mother and changed the tactics. He worked closer together with other Forces and lowered the intensity on the missions. He was a wise leader but his less violent approach seemed to frustrate Bynkah. Morthian was pained by seeing her fall into a depression after the brutal death of her own mate. She hardly took care of her daughter Bella anymore and it was often Rose, Fiodor or Morthian who took care for her.
A long fulfilled life
Morthian’s and Jay’s age was catching up with them but they still participated in the Force, whenever they carried out a mission. They did their work for as long as possible. Morthian continued his healing work, also after Jay retired and died of old age. Life had worn Morthian down too, yet he stayed close to Rose and continued his work as healer until he was too old to keep up with the moving. Back in the homelands, he tried his best to lift Bynkah’s spirits; her once so brutal fighting spirit was broken. Despite his old age, he even tried to hunt for her since she was often too apathic to hunt for herself. That rare time she went out again, she died in a hunting accident. Rose returned Home too and was now the one he was closest to. The other family members had passed away although he remained in distant contact with his sibling’s children. In his last years, he reflected over his long, intense life. “Follow your own path” were his father’s words. He had followed in his father’s tracks, indeed in his own way. His father must have been proud of all the siderian lives that he had saved. As his health was falling back, he felt the end draw nearer. His life was fulfilled and he was ready for what was coming next. With Rose at his side, he surrendered to the Circle of Life and let out his last breath.

*Metaclusters: are places where crystallized underground pathways come together and where large metaphysical crystals reach the surface. Siderians made use of them as energy sources to build their own communication and energy network around these crystal clusters. The population density around metaclusters is usually much higher than elsewhere and they have more facilities (places where they come together to teach each other, give medical care or trade)- although it’s often really small scaled compared to human settlements.
