APPEARANCE
Appearance & reputation
: a little ghostly and mysterious due to his stalking, silent way of moving and his secretive, silent and shy behavior. Among the rest of the Sætansen family, he has the reputation of a miserable, skittish and pathetic coward. Outside the family territory, in the cluster MistFjord, he’s not very well known since he rarely shows himself but those who have seen/met him know him as an insecure, shy, secretive yet friendly fellow.

Physical description
Body: rather tall and long lined with a fine bone structure which gives him relatively fine joints and small, fine paws. His light skeleton is mostly hidden underneath bulky, well-defined muscles which makes him physically quite strong. Overall body-shape is quite tiger-like. Long tail (which he carries low and close to his body) and rather long neck. His gait is elegant but rather low to the ground. He moves silently and carefully as if he’s always stalking.

Head: quite a long narrow face with well defined cheeckbones. Very big, low placed ears that point to the side (‘airplane-ears’) with a slight kink in the middle. Fine, triangular muzzle and well defined chin. Angular eye-shape. Eyes are warm yellow-green in colour. His pupils are often dilated because of his insecurity.

Fur: very dark gray with black tiger-stripes (‘steel tabby’). Long sleek and dense fur with a noticeable sheen. Long, sleek mane, long slightly drooping lynx tips, long goat-like beard and shorter but rather dense fur at the side of his head and jaws. His mane goes over in long, sleek chest fur that becomes gradually shorter towards the belly. Long fur-extensions on his elbows, wrists and ankles. Long sleek hair on his tail.

PERSONALITY & CHARACTER
Personality and mannerisms
:
MBTI personality type: INFP -T (the mediator/idealist)

Shy, insecure, friendly, soft, gentle, extremely sensitive, empathic and understanding. Intelligent and interested in the world around him and the Sætansen history. He’s deeply spiritual and has the mystical ability to just “know” things that happen somewhere else. He’s wise and yet dreamy. Quite passionate about his interests.

Once he gets over his insecurity, he’s very loving and intensely affectionate. He gets quite clingy once he trusts somebody that he can be close with. Yet, he’s submissive and easy to dominate or intimidate. He has the strong need to be close to someone but this was hardly possible in his life (see story). He has an intense longing for love and affection but eventually has some sort of peace with his solitary lifestyle.

He has a low self-esteem (which is rare for a feline) and  is too insecure to take great responsibilities. Due to the things that happened in his life, he had a permanent vibe of sadness around him. He’s quite melanchonic and is constantly near a (mild) depression. Yet, he tries to be as positive as possible and places things in perspective with the thought “it could have been worse”.

He’s silent, secretive and often invisible because he prefers to hide himself from others (he sees nearly everybody as a threat). He’s quite skittish, fearful and rather passive. He’s not assertive at all and if possible, he runs away from problems and responsibilities. However, if he can’t, he quickly gets into the state of learned helplessness. He doesn’t fight or defend himself against other siderians and that’s why he’s often seen as a pathetic coward by his family.

Type of humor: too shy to have well defined humor. In very rare occasions he can be just playful and a little joly. He’s way too sensitive and serious for sarcasm or other types of humour.

Voice, manner of speaking: he has a friendly, yet quite low voice with a hard, scratchy edge. He doesn’t talk much but once he does, he sounds warm, calm and a little dreamy and mysterious

Sexuality: heterosexual. Quite passionate, intense and intimate on the sexual front. He has very strong sexual desires but after he loses his mate way too early, he never dares to engage in sexual interactions with a sideress anymore. But the desires remain so he had to keep it for himself…

Spirituality and philosophy: deeply spiritual. He feels a strong connection to his true Sætansen ancestors, Demons and the Ancient Cosmic Spirit Lucifer. He has a strong longing to be with them once his life is over.  He also has a strong connection to the natural world and other living beings which keeps him going and prevents him from falling into a severe depression.

Fears: to lose the last one of his family left: his son Håkan. When he saw the drama unfold between his son and grandso, he intensely feared that this was going to escalate very badly… In many cases, he was even afraid of his own son’s dark, turbulent and violent behavior, which made him do everything Håkan wanted him to do.

Dreams: to be safe with Lucifer and to experience intense love and affection again.

Interest, hobbies, occupation: he’s strongly interested in the history of the Sætansen dynasty and the strong spiritual connection that his ancestors had with Demons and Lucifer. When he’s not (nearly obsessively) marking the territory (which Håkan commanded him to do), or hunting,  he spends much of his time wandering around the territory and visiting historical places and other Sætansen relics. He also likes it to just mediate and absorb the beauty of the world with all his senses.

Special skills: “seeing” things happen that are beyond his physical senses. Sometimes he seems to get glimpses of the future. He’s good at seeing patterns; and has a nearly supernatural insight in spirituality and energies.

STORY

Not worth the Sætansen name
Åmund was the last born cub from well respected family-head Are Sætansen and his fiery mate Áskatla. He was already an oddball from a very young age; he was dreamy, soft, insecure and quite passive. His other siblings were much bolder and he was quickly ran over by them and bullied for his cowardly, skittish behavior. He received little support from his parents; his father was nearly always away and his mother only gave him the necessary care to survive but nothing more. As he grew up, his parents, siblings and cousins gave him the impression that he could never live up to the great Sætansen name.  His mother often bitched at him and tried to harden him to become “as good as the others”. She never accepted Åmund’s shy personatlity and this only reinforced his insecurity, anxiety and low self-esteem. The constant bullying by his elder siblings only made it worse. Yet his desire for affection and love was very strong which made him rather melanchonic and sad already at a young age. As an adolescent, he tried to disappear from the other’s view and yet he never wanted to leave the family lands. He had just learned about the Sætansen history and was fascinated by it. He became more silent but was developing his own passion for spirituality and history. Yet, something didn’t feel right for him and the way his father and uncle lived the legacy.

Teenage love
As the hormones kicked in in his early adolescent years, his need for affection, love and closeness only grew stronger and stronger, to nearly unbearable levels. Yet, he was too insecure and too fearful to act upon it. However, with his growing interests in history, he eventually got the courage to travel to MistFjord (the nearby metacluster; a place where metaphysical crystals -ecals- cluster and where siderians ‘store’ information and interact with these ecals) at an age of 15 years old. This was also an attempt to evade his bullying siblings and cousins. Once in MistFjord,  he spotted a similar aged sideress and immediately fell in love. Her interest in him was equally strong, which helped him over his insecurity. They approached each other carefully but the flame was immediately ignited in both of them; they formed a prefect match. This sideress turned his head upside down and he just blindly acted upon his impulses, completely forgetting his fears. He learned that her name was Leira and that she was also treated as an outcast by her family. Her rather bold and assertive personaltily was just what he needed to get over his own fears. Their love relation grew very intense and before the two adolescents even realized it, they had already mated several times. He felt that his life finally took a bright turn and he felt happier than ever with Leira. Together with her, he felt stronger than ever.

The birth of a son
However, when they discovered that she was unexpectedly pregnant, the insecurity hit him hard again. He was just an adolescent himself and felt far not ready to be a father. But Leira was optimistic and confident enough to believe that together, they could raise a cub and form a happy family. Indeed, when Åmund and Leira were just 16 years old, their kitten was born; a little black boy. They named him Håkan, which translates to “highborn / high kin”. Despite their young age, they managed well. They loved each other and their cub intensely and were the happy family they dreamt about. Åmund was so much with his head in the clouds that he forgot about his own family and what they would think of the situation, since they still stayed in a remote area of the Sætansen territory. They tried their best to be good parents and he had the feeling that they succeeded. Leira was a confident, fierce huntress and managed well, despite her young age. But the birth of a cub was a strain on her young body, which affected her hunting skills.

Left behind
When little Håkan was only one year old, it was Åmund’s turn to stay at the den while Leira went out hunting. Days passed and she didn’t return. The nagging worries got unbearable and he began to search for her. He carried little Håkan along and left him in several lairs while he searched for his mate.  After days of searching, he found the bloody, lifeless body of his beloved mate among tracks that witnessed of a fight with a bull moose. Struck by sorrow and panic he didn’t know what to do. His whole world collapsed; everything felt so frightening that there was only one impulse that came to his mind; to return to his parents with his cub. His parents were not pleased and crushed him with a thunder-speech about how stupid and irresponsible he had been. They took his cub from him, telling him that he was way too pathetic to be a father and banished him from the Sætansen Fortress and the center of the territory. They forbade him to come anyway near his cub, so that he wouldn’t screw this Sætansen decendant even further with his pathetic behaviour. He didn’t understand why his parents took little Håkan away from him but he had no other choice than to leave and live hidden in the periphery of the family territory.

Banished and lonely
He wandered around the lands, lonely and never daring to leave and never daring to come close to the Fortress where his parents and son lived. He tried to live invisible, like a ghost and avoided any social contact. The loneliness and sorrow grew on him and he fell into a chronic depression. Still, as much as he tried, he failed to understand why his parents took his son away.  As the years passed, the need to see his son eventually drove him closer to the Fortress. Just one glimpse of little Håkan was worth the risk of getting humiliated, bullied and beaten up again. It was painful to see how his parents treated his three-years old son in the same way as they had treated him. As if they had the hope to raise him as a worthy Sætansen and were yet pissed by the fact that they failed to do so. He recognized his own insecurity in little Håkan and saw how Áskatla treated his son as if he was he was an insult to the family. Åmund wondered why his mother was so obsessed with raising one as a true Sætansen and yet bitched at cubs who failed to live up against her high expectations. Why did she continue to try and why did she not just leave him? Åmund once managed to sneak close to his son but Håkan hardly recognized him and was only scared by Åmund’s sudden appearance. Afraid to be seen, he quickly disappeared again after having exchanged a few soothing words. He hadn’t noticed that he was spotted by one of his siblings and got beaten up for his ‘mistake’. That made him extra careful and he left again with pain in his heart. He tried to remain invisible and yet wanted get glimpses of his son. When little Håkan was 8 years old, he got another chance. For some reason, Håkan was sleeping outside and seemed no longer allowed in the Fortress. Carefully, they exchanged a few words and he told Håkan that he wasn’t all alone. He tried to keep a closer eye on his son but had to be extra careful not to be seen. Especially now that his father, Are, had noticed Åmund’s presence. Afraid to be beaten up again, he left. Years passed and he tried to forget about the emotional pain and live in solitude, trying to focus on learning more about the history. However, the guilt for having left his son to his fate never left him,  but was too afraid and insecure to risk coming closer.

Found again
Years later it was Håkan who was now searching for him. Håkan was 15 years old now and when they secretly exchanged some words, he noticed that Håkan had also learned about the family history. They both felt betrayed by the current generation who did not live the true spiritual Sætansen legacy. Åmund saw that Håkan was guarded by a Demon and tried to give him a boost of conficence. He felt a deep understanding and mutual trust. Håkan was shy and insecure as well but Åmund also noticed a growing darkness and resistance in his son that worried him.  A year later, he noticed that Are had indeed beaten Håkan badly for his increasingly rebellious attitude. The scratchmarks that he saw on his sons limbs and head in the period after this conflict, witnessed of self-harming rather than further conflicts. All Åmund could do was trying to stay close and yet invisible, which was a risky strategy with the growing tension in the family. Åmund noticed that Håkan’s insecurity and fear was slowly turning into violence and rebellion and when Håkan was 18 years old, he approached Åmund again. Not to seek comfort but to form an alliance against the rest of the family. Åmund didn’t want to engage in any conflict but his son’s growing aggression and dominance intimidated him and he reluctantly agreed. He tried to talk Håkan out of this dark spiral, but his son became only harder. He commanded Åmund to map everybody’s location and behavioural patterns as part of his dark plan. Åmund had a suspicion what this plan was and felt completely stuck in the situation. The trust that he had in his son was now accompanied by fear. Håkan had become so mad of hatred that he wanted to kill everybody in the family. Håkan still saw Åmund as the only person that he trusted, but Åmund felt that one mistake could turn Håkan against him as well.

Brutal revenge
When Håkan was 21 years old he brought his plan in motion. His son had become a monster and out of fear, Åmund followed his every command. He didn’t like his parents and siblings but didn’t want them to die either. Helpless, he had to witness how his son murdered their entire family. The following emptiness left an eerie, death silence over the once so lively Sætansen territory. Håkan commanded him to patrol and mark the borders extensively. There was a subtle threat in his dark voice that he should not fail. When Håkan was away to control MistFjord or travelled to another metacluster, he felt that all the responsibility to safeguard the vast territory was on him. Despite Håkan’s hate-driven cruelty, Åmund noticed that the fear and insecurity was still present in his son; as if he was paranoid and responding to it with uttermost violence. Despite the fear fear for Håkan, he still got the impression that he was Håkan’s one and only source of trust and support.Åmund spent most of his time alone, wandering across the territory, trying to make the best out of the situation.

A touch of happiness
The tides began to turn when Håkan once approached him to ask advice about a sideress in whom he was interested. Finally, Åmund’s fear for his son faded and he finally got the courage to speak about Leira. It was a painful topic, but he wanted Håkan to know how much she loved him in the short that time they had together. A year later, Håkan invited his new mate -Norunn- to the Sætansen lands. In this year, he had become nicer and the worst darkness was gone. He was like a flower emerging from underneath the snow.  He felt the trust in his son grow deeper and he was finally confident enough to move closer to the Fortress. Finally, he got to marvel the majestic main gate of the cave with the statue of their first ancestor, Sáveron Sætansen, above it. Yet he felt not worthy enough to enter it. When Håkan and Norunn got a daughter, Åmund felt a touch of happiness again. For the first time, Håkan asked him to patrol together once Norunn took young Morissa to the learning ground (a kinda ‘school’) in MistFjord. They talked about history and art and when Håkan finally convinced him to enter the Fortress, he learned that Håkan was actually a talentend musician and artist himself. Åmund had only distantly heared about the majestic organ -named Siderieus Rex - in the Fortress but had never seen it for real. It gave him the shivers to hear his son play it with full Passion. He was still a little heldback but the contact with his granddaughter really warmed his heart. Finally they were the happy family that he had always dreamt about.

Six years later, Norunn got pregnant again. Åmund was aware of Håkan’s paranoia and the worries about getting a male-cub but he was pretty sure that Håkan could be a good father for a little boy as well. Indeed Norunn gave birth to a son and named him Matthias. The first year seemed to go well and Åmund spent most of his time hunting for them or watching over Morissa. However, roughly a year after Matthias’ birth, Håkan approached Åmund again. Little Matthias behaved strangely and Håkan came to ask for Åmund’s advice and support. “Just trust him” was the only thing Åmund could answer but he noticed that the insecurity had it’s permanent grip on Håkan. Åmund tried his best to be a good grandpaw for Morissa and often took her on adventure when Håkan and Norunn were away. Sometimes Håkan joined them as well. He discovered how much he loved talking about his passion for the Sætansen history and spirituality. One time, Håkan invited him to join to the most sacred places in the Fortress. He didn’t feel worthy of seeing that and was even scared to set foot in these ancient places. But Håkan convinced him eventually. Deep down, he had always wished to see the ancient relics for real and he was surprised about how much he actually knew about this. He got carried away with his stories and noticed how much Morissa and Håkan loved to listen to him.

Worrisome tension
However, the tension between Håkan and Matthias had not left and his worries grew. Matthias was indeed an odd, highly intelligent cub without moral boundaries and he understood why that triggered Håkan’s paranoia again. Once he was watching over Morissa and the six years old Matthias while Håkan and Norunn wanted some private time together. Matthias was getting bored and wanted to explore the Fortress, even though Håkan had forbidden him to do so without his own supervision.  Matthias had bitten Åmund in his paw when he tried to stop him and had ran into the Fortress. Struck by surprise he didn’t know what to do and stood as nailed to the ground while Morissa ran off as well. This time, Håkan wasn’t angry with him and he only expressed more of his worries concerning Matthias’ uncontrollable, provocative behaviour. Åmund silently tried to keep an eye on little Matthias and reported everything to Håkan. The trust between them was back but when Håkan approached him with the same dark, violent expression as before, he felt the fear well up. Håkan was indeed furious about something that Matthias had done. He sneered at Åmund that he should reinforce the defenseline of the territory immediately and keep better track of Matthias. With a bad gut-feeling he did what his son commanded. He felt the tension in the air but could only guess what was going on after he had seen Norunn covered in scratchmarks. A few times he had also noticed unusual scratchmarks on Håkan and he wondered whether Håkan was harming himself again. There was no sign of Norunn and the kids and only weeks later he spotted his son outside the Fortress again. Håkan was limping and couldn’t stand on his right frontpaw but he didn’t dare to ask what had happened. Instead, he brought some more prey and left it at the Fortress’ entrance. Eventually Norunn and the kids came back and Håkan’s paw eventually healed.

An unfolding drama
Håkan had become harder and more aggressive towards Åmund as Matthias grew up and the tension between them increased. More often, he saw his son with scratchmarks on his limbs and even Matthias was regularly covered in wounds. Åmund could sense the hostility between them and felt yet again helpless and hurt to see the drama between his descendants unfold. He continued his attempts to talk Håkan off the violence but failed. Håkan commanded him to report everything concerning Matthias’ behavior and whereabouts to him directly. However, Åmund had the feeling that Matthias was well aware of that and had outsmarted him quite a few times. Once Håkan was so pissed about something that Matthias had stolen from him that he cornered Åmund and confronted him with his failure to report everything. Håkan even went as far as blaming Åmund for having been a bad father and that all this drama would not have happened if he hadn’t left Håkan to be humiliated by Are and Áskatla. That brought the pain and insecurity back. The built up sorrow returned and he missed Leira and the good time with Morissa and Håkan. Even memories of the family massacre returned haunted him for weeks. Only when Håkan came back to apologize, the emotional pain lessened a bit. However, the tension remained and the wounds that he noticed on Matthias (who was now 16 years old) began to worry him. More and more, he got the impression that Matthias and Håkan were mutually exclusive and this was bound to escalate badly with one killing the other. Although Matthias seemed rather unaffected by Håkan’s violence, yet Åmund noticed something potentially very dangerous in his grandson.

Their fate was sealed
Worries got worse when he saw Norunn leave the Fortress together with the kids. Matthias was badly wounded and hardly able to walk straight. Håkan was nowhere to be seen either and he searched the lands for any sign of him but found nothing. Somehow he felt that Håkan was still in the Fortress, withering away of stress. He hadn’t seen him for weeks and only when Norunn hard returned again, he spotted his outside son again. His bad gutfeelings were right; Håkan looked emaciated. Åmund was hurt to see his son suffer so much and felt yet again helpless . The only thing he could do, was to leave extra food near the entrance. Håkan recovered and Åmund continued to keep a close eye on Matthias, who was still doing everything Håkan forbade him to do. Åmund’s feelings that the conflict would escalate badly soon got stronger with the day. Madness hung in the air, especially when Håkan asked him to track down Matthias again so that he could banish him from the Sætansen lands for good. Matthias had indeed left, but there was an ominous silence in the air. Somehow Åmund knew that this action sealed their fate and that Matthias was not gone. He didn’t want to stress Håkan even further and ignored his worries. Two years later, he noticed again that Norunn had left because of a conflict. The whole situation felt so off that he suspected that Matthias was behind this. He wandered around the Fortress in search for Håkan but saw no signs of life from neither him, Norunn or Morissa. Something was terribly wrong, yet he didn’t dare to enter the Fortress. He hardly dared to sleep anymore and could only rest in the most hidden places. Until one day something hit him in his sleep. Struck by panic he jumped up and tried to run away from whatever hit him. But his muscles weakened and the silhouette of his grandson appeared before him while a paralyzing poison spread through his body.  His heart pounded frantically with fear but he could not resist when Matthias dragged him all the way into the Fortress. The smell of blood filled his nose and the sight of his son made his heart skip a few beats. Håkan was chained down, his black fur stained with blood and he was hardly more than skin and bone. Åmund’s worst nightmare had come true. Matthias took his revenge on both Håkan and him. Tied down by his frontpaws, he could only watch helplessly how Matthias tortured and humiliated Håkan. As the poison faded away, he fought as hard as he could against the chains from which he was hanging. With his feet barely touching the ground, the exhaustion quickly took him over…

I remember being so happy when I saw you finally posted this lovely fellow, and now that just feels like an even more warm feeling. And I'm glad he feels ok here... it's not something he had much of in his time... And reading more about that here... And just reflecting on the impact Áskatla had on him, I remember reading something about how most young people are born scientists, asking questions and seeking the truth, but adults and school beats it out of all but a select few who make it through... I think the same goes for dreamers like him... and it's sorry to see what became of him because of that... I am glad he still saw the beauty in the world around him and found some solace in it... but when I think of how much of his life was a pit of suffering, and how that also ended with more unjust suffering... I am deeply upset and sickened... just hope his spirit can some day achieve a better state of being than what he went through in this life. And hope he can find the strength and courage to reach for it. If he needs a loving push- we believe in him even if he doesn't believe in himself.

Thanks a lot for this lovely comment - I may be late with replying, but I really appreciate it...especially nowadays.

I actually don't know how he's doing now....I haven't seen much of him lately - I don't know if he's negatively affected by my state as well or if it's something else. But yeah as you said - he had a of potential...he had the same intelligence as Håkan and incredibly keen spiritual senses...also his musical talent could have florished if he was given a chance.

I also noticed that he keeps his deepest feelings kinda away, probably because they are so sad and he doesn't want to influence me any further.

I just hope that he finds his peace once and gets the chance to develop the true talents of his soul. I believe that his time will come too. He's already in good contacts.

I remember while you were drawing this one and at the stage where colors were there but not quite finished it already looked so beautiful, so.... so enticing and pleasant, although secretive and enigmatic. Up until then I didn't really have the exact feeling of his personality, but right then the colors gave it to me somehow. Just the colors. It changed my very perception of him. Of course when you finished it, it only grew stronger (and even more pleasant to look at, even if to me it looked quite finished even before the last touches), and ahhh that shine in the fur. I really like the shine in the fur, but that's always the case in these sheets. Especially the backlit highlights, so pretty My point being, with so many reference sheets until now, you've grown truly masterful in conveying the personality - not only through features, look and pose, but also the background, the colors, the subtle lighting. I know I'm only repeating myself, but it just adds sooooooooo much atmosphere and feeling that it seems to make like half of the impact. I am trying to learn from you actually lol, but not very good at the moment. Anyway. This is one of the sheets in which that atmospheric effect is especially strong and really adds a lot.

P.S. The forest picture in the top left of his æsthetic is really a beautiful shot, very much speaks of him and.... I think it speaks of what the forest is to him.

Aww such nice words! I feel flattered (or flattened?, maybe that too). But yeah I think Åmund's charactersheet is one of the better ones and since he has such a clear appearance and personality, it's easier to translate that into a charactersheet somehow. For some reason, this combination just worked.

Lol that makes me nearly want to make some sort of tutorial about my method of charactersheet making, but at the same time...I'm like...hmm what to tell? I just go by intuition here - and the charactersheets are kinda 'minimal' since I want distracting text and just a nice image that stands on its own. But yeah it wasn't really until you pointed it out that I began to think...oh wait a minute...yeah indeed - the colours and all tell a lot about someone as well. I've always just done this by feeling. I've also considered changing fonts for each one personally...but for some reason, I didn't like that level of 'inconsistancy' when I move through them quickly. Still a point of consideration though. But I must say that the font that I use now fits everbody rather well and seems in general quite siderian-ish ^^

Ah yeah - I think he feels very safe in misty forests, yet recently I also associate him with another type of aesthetic that's not represented here. I will draw that once - it's still on my to do list...

OH dat would be so great! I mean, purely technically, I really wanna know how you make these backgrounds, because what I've tried so far doesn't feel very optimal (part of the reason may be that I draw the person themself in pencil, and that stands out too starkly against the smooth digital background). It doesn't have to be a full-fledged tutorial, because that takes a lot of time and resources. But maybe we can discuss it in one of these evening talks, it may prove very helpful.

Mmmm, enigmatic. I'm looking forward to seeing what exactly

Yeah, he deserves to be seen too...even though he's very shy and wants to hide.

Indeed, it was quite hard to get back to this story again, but I need that from time to time. And Åmund also needs some love and positive attention.

Hello again, Åmund. This poor sad boy...he truly had a hard life and he was such a gentle soul too.

Yeah things could have turn out quite differently for him. If his mother was a little nicer or if Leira hadn't died, I think he would have managed to grow at least some confidence and self-esteem.
