I didn't think fighting in underwear could look badass, but I was quite wrong.

**snorts, laughing**
Ha! This was another challenge, actually--to depict how Jedi might battle in their "sleeping garb..." The actual wording was "tighty whities," so you get the idea! LOL! It was a great scene, though: Jedi rolling out of bed and seconds later engaging in a fierce firefight (they won, of course!)!

Haha I was beginning to wonder... At least Mara has a less-revealing sleep outfit. Well, sort of. Wonderful job, yet again, FF!!

xD I remember reading this scene and getting to the part where it mentioned something Luke's briefs and thinking "...Wait, are they all fighting in their underwear right now?"

Yeah, I've seen her art. I favorited her "Embrace of Pain" work. I was FURIOUS with Jacen for putting Ben in that thing...

I never read Betrayal. I went beyond that and this scene somewhat has taken me aback. Must be embarrasing to fight in your underwear. XD

"Must be embarrasing to fight in your underwear."
I thought so, too! Initially this wasn't a scene I would have done, but I have a friend, , that digitally painted it and challenged me to try it in pencil, so I did! It was interesting, to see the Jedi caught, quite literally, with "their pants down!" Guess Sithly stuff can do that to them... Thanks for taking a look, and thanks, too, for adding me to your friends!

Had to do that once in a Star Wars roleplay I was running. Needless to say, I'd imagine it's a bit drafty.

Well, okay, that was a bit of a lie. I read the Han Solo Trilogy and the first book of the Corellian Trilogy back when I was in middle school, but I had no real interest in seeing how much further things went. I had a friend who wouldn't shut up about the Yuuzhan Vong and it kinda turned me off to reading Star Wars. But when I hear that Han Solo's son becomes a Sith Lord and kills Luke's wife? What self-respecting Star Wars fan can ignore such a thing? xD
But anyway, I enjoyed the Legacy series immensely. After I finished that, I went back and read the Dark Nest Trilogy. Then I went back and started on the NJO series. While reading FotJ, which I'm enjoying just as much. It's official. Ben's my favorite character xD

I'm sort of in the middle ground. I understand and embrace some arguments from both sides. I, personally, thought it was well conceived and well written, but it did seem a bit rushed in the last few books. I blame that on Karen Traviss spending more than half of book 8 on a Mando trip xD I didn't have the reaction that a lot of my friends did to Mara's death. I guess I wasn't as attached to her because LotF was my introduction to her character. I did enjoy what I experienced though. Like when Mara strode in the Council Chamber all beaten up and Kyp asked "What happened to you, and where do we send flowers for the other guy?"
"and to end with having his twin sister do him in with such seeming ease... "
Ease? No offense, but if you thought Jaina took Caedus out easily, I think you need to reread Invincible. She nearly died herself. XD
Not only is Ben all of that, but I think the reason I enjoy his character so much is because he seems the most human. You never forget that, yes, he is a powerful Jedi Knight, but he's also a teenage boy.

"No offense, but if you thought Jaina took Caedus out easily, I think you need to reread Invincible. She nearly died herself."
Agreed--but Caedus was supposed to be this all-powerful Sith, with all sorts of exotic Force-capabilities no one else understood or could perform. How is it that his sister, unversed in either Sith powers or the other arcane disciplines Jacen/Caedus supposedly commanded, could take him out (Mando training notwithstanding)...? Shouldn't he be able to both fire out a telepathic warning to his "wife" and child and simply shatter Jaina's skull with a Force-blast at the same time...? This was the part I didn't really understand. That Jaina suffered grievous--nearly mortal--injury in the battle is no surprise--it was inevitable. But that Caedus very-nearly seemed to just "give up" at the penultimate moment was...poor plot device, IMHO. Caedus was the Sithly distillation of all of Jacen Solo's skill, learning and power--it should have been a draw between him and Jaina, at worst--and he should have been able to kill her with little effort (at least according to how we were led to believe about his abilities, anyway)... But that's just my own opinion, and not necessarily how the writers may have been thinking.
I agree about the last books feeling "rushed;" "Invincible" should have been a lot longer, delving a lot more into those final events and how they were handled by those involved... But--hopefully--FOTJ will avoid a lot of the "toe stubs" that saddled LOTF; I, too, like Ben's characterization so far--and his relationship with his dad is wonderful to read, as well!

It's true, Caedus was supposed to wield a variety of arcane, esoteric abilities, but none that related exclusively to combat. And bear in mind, he did try to twist her head off like he did to Isolder. And you're right, he could have easily taken Jaina out when she moved in to finish him off. But he was about to die, and they both knew it. Perhaps he just felt that an avenging counterstrike simply wasn't as important as warning Tenel Ka. He probably could have done both, but the former probably didn't matter to him as much. Say whatever he might about his motives, but his devotion to his loved ones was one of the main causes of his fall, and it would undoubtedly take precedence over killing Jaina. So much so that at least once in that fight, he tried to reason with her.

"his devotion to his loved ones was one of the main causes of his fall, and it would undoubtedly take precedence over killing Jaina."
Conceded--and I still maintain that somewhere deep in his psyche, too deep for even Caedus to recognize it, he loved his sister, his parents, and the man he had once been--brother, son, father, lover, Jedi. I also recognize the need, if indeed he was near death, to choose--whether to kill Jaina or warn Tenel Ka; but I still believe he had the Force-resources to preserve his own life in that moment, AND send a warning to his child's mother. He'd been dreadfully wounded, but had come out of his long-ago battle with Onimi with an incredible ability to heal--not only himself, but others. He DID try to deter his twin (...was it more than once...?), but I don't know if it was because he didn't want to kill her--I think, given different circumstances (not walking into her blade before the duel even began, for one), he could/would have dispatched her without giving it a second thought.
Perhaps I'm assigning too much cold-bloodedness to Caedus--but as I read through the last few books, that's what came across to me. The only person he seemed to truly care about any longer was Allana (even Tenel Ka was forfeit, for abandoning him and withdrawing her fleet)--and though there was an element of love in that obsessive "caring," there was also a strong desire to use the child as leverage against TK. He had simply become warped by the power he was wielding--something that seems unavoidable in anyone falling to the Dark Side, for whatever reason...
Your arguements are sound, to be sure--I simply came away from LOTF feeling Caedus had been given short-shrift by the authors in those last few novels. Built up to be the ultimate Sith Lord, he seemed to go out looking far less than that...again, my opinion purely.
I understand we all interpret a story with a different take on events--owing to our own life experiences, beliefs and values. I wish things had been different in LOTF--and that we still had Jacen Solo: he could have been an outstanding Jedi Master, IMHO--he could have made a life with TK and their daughter. It would have been lovely to see that come about...
Oh, well. We cannot change the past (even flow walking! )--FOTJ seems to be shaping up well so far--let's keep our fingers crossed!

"He DID try to deter his twin (...was it more than once...?)"
It might not have been more than once; perhaps I exaggerated, but my point that he was more concerned with saving TK and Allana than fight to the death with Jaina stands. Of course, if he had both of his arms at the time, he might have done a little better. It shouldn't mean much to a mighty Sith, true, but I imagine it had to have made some difference. At the very least, I'd find it pretty awkward xD
Anyway, yeah, it's true that everyone can interpret this with their own takes. It's so rare that I get the opportunity to debate Star Wars intelligently, so I enjoy talking to you. As for wishing that things had turned out differently, I can speak volumes about that. Hell, if the second Solo generation had to be reduced to one, I'd like it to have been Anakin. Not that I think that badly of Jacen, I'd have rather seen him suffer Anakin's fate. I haven't read much of the NJO series, but so far, I can tell Jacen's developing into be an impressive breed of Jedi. I think it'd have been interesting to see Jacen perish in the war, have Jaina go dark, and have Anakin take her out. Redeeming his name, so to speak.
As for disappointment in Caedus, worry not. Paxis will be better...

Well... Considering it to be the first book in the LOTF series, I guess it won't hurt to read it.
