Description This is a request, from a user on another forum, to illustrate the two main characters in his SW fan fiction series, "Galaxy Noir." Meet Jav Yonx, a Duro private investigator, and his Corellian partner Remy Diabet. The bit of starship in the b/g is supposed to be a highly-modified Z-95 Headhunter (belonging to their "gunslinging" female friend)...I'm still working at figuring out and executing backgrounds... **sigh**

Nathan seems pleased--I'm welcoming critique and suggestions here, though: composing and illustrating "from scratch" are an ongoing project with me, and I know there are some extremely talented people here at dA who can help!

I do not own SW or these characters--they belong to their respective "creators," George Lucas and Nathan Cranor.

Beautiful work. I really likes how the Duros looks.

Thank you kindly! This was a real stretch for me, as I had never previously drawn aliens of any kind; I'm so glad it turned out like it did! I was fortunate to have a lot of good references for Duros--the problematic part was making sure he had an expression that would somewhat convey his matter-of-fact personality, as well: the wry little half-grin seemed to work! Thanks so much for taking a look!

Thanks! This was kind of fun: helping the fan fiction author bring his characters into visual form. I'd never drawn a Duro before, so had to do some stepping to find references--but he was fun to give some personality! Thanks for faving it, too--especially since it's non-canon characters!

Excellent alien ! (but human enough to connect to). The flying buttresses (ship struts) are a nice piece of background work/perspective

Hi, and thanks for taking a look! The "supports" in the background are actually supposed to be the beams holding up docking bay or hangar walls (or perhaps the interior hanger bay of a larger vessel)--and I think you're the first one to mention them, so thank you very much! The alien is a Duro (seen ever-so-briefly in the cantina scene in the very first film)--but this one is a "gumshoe," as the author calls him! Many thanks for the visit and comment!

sorry bout that last comment...just delete it.

i like the realism of this one, its an amazing piece of art. Do you mind if I use this for practice on photoshop, putting color into the pictures? Won't claim it or anything.

I certainly wouldn't mind, but hold that thought and let me check with the requester/author and see if he would approve; since it was a collaborative piece (the characters aren't mine), I'll see if it's okay and get back to you! Thanks for taking a look at it, in any case!

Very nice. I feel like I'm seeing the next Law & Order dream team in the making, SW-SVU.

You did a wonderful job on these two and their background. I can so see them playing the good cop, bad cop thing on people.

"I can so see them playing the good cop, bad cop thing on people."

Oh, that's an awesome thought! I wonder, though, who the "good cop" would be, and who would be the "bad cop...?" Somehow, I think it would be the slightly scruffy-looking Corellian doing the "bad cop:" think Han Solo, at his most volatile--eyes aflame, mouth twisted and face reddened, blaster hand twitching... **shudders** Yeah...insane Corellians are definitely something to be afraid of! Great observation (and I'll have to pass on your comments to the characters' author--I'm sure it'll make him happy! )!

Thanks so much for taking a look!

Fantastic, the details are superb. I can't imagine how long it took to make this one.

So you do requests?

You should do commissions these are so great.

"So you do requests?"

I do--but the list is currently closed (due to my bad and repeated habit of accepting too many and getting "buried" by them...). And I'll leave commissions to the professionals who need them to eat! Thanks for visiting and commenting!

Love it! makes me wish i new where some of my fanfiction was...then again, I wrote most of it when I was 12-14 years old, so who knows how good it and believable it really is. I would have loved to have seen some of my character brought to life when i was younger.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FalconFan In reply to moorephotoimaging [2007-03-04 01:43:38 +0000 UTC]

Cool! You should find some of that old fan fic--it'd probably be a gas to read it now!

And "bringing characters to life" can be somewhat nerve-wracking, to tell the truth: the author or RPG player already knows what the character looks like--how they move, what type of clothing they wear... The artist taking on the request is then "charged" if you will with giving form to that vision...a big responsibility! Nathan was great with this one--he really helped a lot, and I hope this is piece is more his vision than mine! Thanks so much for the comments!

Cool ship! (I'm rubbish at mechanical/technological things)

As far as critique goes, it seems like Remy's left hand does not have enough room in that pocket. Maybe he's making a fist or something...

I really like folds/wrinkles in their pants. And thank you for giving me a mental picture of a Duro. I have been clueless until now!

FalconFan In reply to Limlight [2007-03-03 19:08:00 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the crits--I appreciate it very much! I sort of imagined the hands as fisted in the pockets (that's what happens when we "invent:" we imagine everyone doing things just as we ourselves do: I always fist my hands in my pockets! lol!). And as to the "mental picture" of a Duro: I needed one too when I began this piece! Thus, plenty of surfing to find those pictures! Thanks again!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FalconFan In reply to johnnydraws [2007-03-03 18:29:49 +0000 UTC]

Aw, thanks!

The clothing was based on the descriptions given to me by the author (his words: "in the 'used universe' tradition" ): outside of that, I was on my own in terms of texturing and style. I didn't actually have my normal, usual photo references for this one (...for requests, I often end up "inventing...")--some pics of Duros, to get Jav's appearance somewhat close; and a couple of the Headhunter as general reference. Thanks so much for having a look!
