The sun had barely started rising before Arthur was up and ready for the day. The mangled, brittle trees and fireflies of last night's surroundings had slowly superseded into trees that reached into the sky, limbs outstretched. Birds chirped lovely songs as Arthur's lungs filled with the dewy morning air, a grin stretched across his muzzle.
Next thing on the to-do list was to find a peaceful meadow. He imagined it in his head - the sun overhead and long, long stretches of land as far as the eye could see with luscious greenery. However, his thinking was cut short when a feminine voice sounded nearby.
"Wooohoo, You there!~"
His head swiveled over to meet the gazes of two mares. They were in a clearing in the middle of the forest, standing on either side of a berry bush. "You, yes you!" the pinto on the left called out, beckoning him over with a charming smile. He hesitated for a moment before he crossed the thicket that separated him from the pair, entering the same small clearing. "Y-" He couldn't even mutter a word before the solid black mare spoke. "Greetings! I am Nahara and this," She motions to the grullo mare, " - Is Eos. We are the Cousins of Altair - Say, have you ever been injured before?" She said with a grin, keeping her eyes locked on him.
What kind of question was that? Arthur was probably older than both of the mares combined! He shifted his weight uncomfortably, "Yes-" He replied, and now it was the grullo mare's turn to speak again. "That's great news! Then we have just the thing for you," She motioned to the berries, varying in size and color. "These are called blackberries. Many are still ripening, but just for you, we'll give you a pair of ripe blackberries for only two hundred and fifty feathers!" Nahara purred with a wink.
He raised a brow but Eos swooped in in an attempt to gather any doubt he gained. "But before you make your decision, know that these blackberries aren't any ordinary berries - if you get sick, just eat these berries and your healing time will be shortened by 33.3% percent, or your feathers back!"
He smiled awkwardly, unaware of how to respond. "Ma'am.. I really wish I could, but I'm afraid I don't have that many feathers." Both of the cousins had unwavering smiles as Nahara spoke once more, "Here, I'll give you a deal - ONE hundred and fifty feathers, just for you! But you can't tell anyone." She insisted, nudging the bush branch closer to him.
He chuckled, shaking his head. "I'm sorry, really, but I don't have enough. I would if I could, though." He tried to let them down gently, peering into the sunkissed distance. "Okay, how about this," Eos chipped in. "We'll give you this pair of blackberries for free if you tell your friends about us!"
I don't have any friends.
"...Okay, sure," Arthur agreed before extending and picking the pair of ripe blackberries off the bush. "Well," He continued after an exhale. "It was nice meeting you both, but I have to get going now. Good-bye!"
"Goodbye - and don't forget to tell your friends! It's Eos and Nahara, the Cousins of Altair!~"
