Well, I agree with the comments: this is one cool rig!
From what it looks like, this truck is a tri-drive, with power to all three rear axles! And with the railroad accessories included, you're talking serious money for a truck like this.
I betcha...$250 grand easy

It seems like it would have to use the trainline air brakes, because even three cars of ballast would be incredibly heavy! Thanks for sharing!

It would be interesting to see that truck on the highway with its couplers and air hoses...

Must be ballast dumpers. A few have power, remote opening systems where an individual car can be dumped while moving at fairly high speed without having someone walk alongside or ride the car to operate the doors. When i was on a ballast train we had two units, with a Herzog employee the trailing unit with a computer. They had all the road crossings, switches, and bridges programmed into the GPS, and we would run at i think 25mph with the rock dumping out of one car at a time, but it would stop for the obstacles. They also had a hi-rail truck following behind to make sure we didn't bury any crossings or switches. It was a trip dropping rock on the Belvidere sub in downtown Elgin at 25, around midnight. Bet we woke some people up!

I got shots of a yellow "Herzog" ballast train at Congress Park but I haven't posted it yet. So BNSF is definitely doing ballast work on the RT.

Also, these trucks are effing cool! They can haul quite a few cars but i bet the slack is a little scary when they slow down

Check out the air horns under the bumper. It even seems to be able to use the trainline air brakes! I kinda want one... Sure would be fun to plow through traffic with it!

This is very interesting, I never knew that semi-trucks pulled short freight trains.

First one I've seen. They used to use end cab SWs on M of W runs.
