You know, I've found so far that some of my best close-ups have been done using a net curtain as a diffuser, but when the sun has been round at that side of the house, since just natural daylight wasn't quite enough. I didn't use a reflector though, and that may well have helped. Did you have sunlight at the time?
Since having my macro lens I've been trying things out in our conservatory, but the weather isn't that good at the moment - very dull and sometimes quite heavily overcast. I've tried using lighting set-up, but really the lamps don't go the right angles I want, and I hate the heavy shadows I get from the camera's own flash; I tried using a tissue to diffuse it, but that just produced heavily darkened pictures with lots of pixelation...

I always try and shoot my flower shots with sunlight coming through the net curtains. At first i made a makeshift reflector out of some card and some tin foil to bounce the light back from the other side. I found this helped achieve a much better overall light, i have since bought a proper reflector and i find it an invaluable tool, especially for shooting flowers.
I have yet to get involved with extension tubes and such but i'm sure i'll have to adapt my techiques when i do.

Amazing that! I always thought the spring was a really unique idea, and you did some very interesting things with it!
