Description
This is a design sheet for Sombra as they appear in my Equestria Girls fan-fiction series I am working on. It's still a work in progress and is subject to changes and revision, and I will be releasing bits and pieces of information with each entry before I move onto the real thing. You can read more about what I have so far by following the links listed at the bottom of the image description, and it's recommended to read them in order.
THE FAN-SERIES
I am in the process of writing a road-map and world building for a fan-fiction series of Equestria Girls. Basically, I am writing it like a television series which acts as a sequel to where the original left off, made-up of 2 series', comprised of 5 seasons each, and each season consisting of at least 26 episodes, with a movie serving as the finale. It will be written in the style and tone of the actual show. It's basically what I would do if I was the writer for the actual Equestria Girls series. I do not actually plan on writing full episodes, as that would take too much time and effort, but I may produce a few scripts for some episodes. Instead I write my fan-series in an episodic, synopsis style which details events.
PERSONALITY
Charismatic and Well-Spoken, Sombra is a master orator, and his centuries-long life has taught him a lot about how to interact with people of varied social standing, as well as what they desire. His silver tongue has seduced many an ordinary person into committing dark deeds they would otherwise not consider, let alone do, all as part of some scheme, offering them one thing or another, be it an item they desire, knowledge, or power.
Once proud and arrogant, his past defeats have taught him patience, restraint and pragmatism, unlike his Equestrian counterpart. While his Equestrian counterpart was banished for a thousand years, time not passing by his reckoning, the Human version of Sombra was active all that time after the banishment of the Crystal Empire, and unlike his Equestrian counterpart, he was not within the capital when it was removed from reality. While still somewhat proud, such a trait no longer defines him as it once did. He is however prone to cynical criticism of others, especially those who oppose him.
I have been casually planning this fan-series for years, roughly around the time The Friendship Games was new, and before he was re-cast in the final season of Friendship is Magic, I had planned on recasting him with Simon Templeman, who voiced Kain from the Legacy of Kain series, and Dr Doom in the 1990's Fantastic Four series. A sample of his work can be heard in the link below.

BACKSTORY
Once a Nobleman over a thousand years ago, Sombra turned to the dark arts to increase his power and influence, and eventually his searches for artefacts and lore lead him to discovering the existence of a cabal of evil magic-users, called "The Shadow Fact", who study the dark arts and collude with the Umbral, the native Spirits of the Umbral Plane, the realm of darkness, negativity and elemental evil. Desperate to share in their power, he offered to add his political power, land, resources and influence to theirs, and was eventually inducted into their membership.
His arcane knowledge and power flourished and he eventually caught the attention of the Shadow Facts Leader – known to most as The Lord of Darkness, a being who has terrorized Mankind for thousands of years with his Army of Darkness. Eventually it was decided that Sombra was worthy of a rite known as the Dark Ascension, a ritual that transforms them into an Umbran, a Human Umbral, a being of pure darkness, granting them immortality and otherworldly powers.
The Shadow Fact had been Arch-Enemies of the Order of the Pillars for over a thousand years, a war of sword, spell and intrigue that has spanned the globe. Eventually the war turned in favour of the Order of the Pillars, and the Shadow Facts members were hunted down and exposed. The campaign culminated with the Order of the Pillars locating the Shadow Facts main base – the fabled Midnight Castle, and an epic battle with the Lord of Darkness ensued, concluding with his defeat. Before being cast down and forced to flee into hiding, the Lord of Darkness banished the Midnight Castle from the mortal plane so that it could not be seized or destroyed. They were then forced into hiding thereafter, to slowly regain their power, leaving the surviving members to scatter across the world to forge their own destinies.
In the wake of the fall of the Lord of Darkness, Sombra would take on a new alias and embed himself into the nobility of the Crystal Empire, where he would slowly but surely begin corrupting the royal court. Over time, some of the surviving members of the Shadow Fact would find their way to him and they would begin their schemes anew under Sombra's Leadership. Together they would summon an army of Umbrals from the Umbral Plane and call upon Creatures of the Night, including Werewolves, Vampires and other dark things, becoming the new Army of Darkness. They took over the Crystal Empire, and crowning himself King Sombra, he would forge his new Crystal Empire into a war-machine which would begin a campaign of conquest.
Ultimately his campaign would fail as the descendants of The Pillars once again stepped forth to oppose the Shadow Fact, the ensuing storm of sorcery needed to banish the Umbral Army resulting in the Crystal Empire's capital being sundered and banished from the Mortal Plane. King Sombra, no longer with a kingdom to rule, was forced into hiding, and no longer willing to risk exposure by doing something so visible as open rulership, now skulks in the shadows, taking on new aliases over the centuries, dwelling in the dark corners of the world, scheming and gathering power, believing one day the Lord of Darkness will return.
Sometimes he would assume a completely new persona, fashioning a new identity entirely and using natural Umbral shape-changing powers to appear as mundane as any other random Person, but sometimes he makes no attempt to integrate into society and spends a life-time in secret, retaining his true identity of Sombra as he conducts research and gathers power. He was last active simply as "Doctor Sombra", living in secret within the depths of Everfree Forest in his mansion where he would pursue the sciences and dangerous experiments, hidden by dark magic. Today, the mansion is now abandoned, nobody has been able to find his mansion, but those few who had dealings with him in the illegal magical items trade suspect he has been preparing for some monumental event that is now soon approaching. Some theorize that it may be that the Shadow Fact is rising again, and some believe it to be the return of the Lord of Darkness.
IN THE FAN SERIES
Sombra will appear as a recurring Enemy to the Rainbooms and the Consortium throughout the entire series, especially in season 5 when he will be most active as he re-united with his old master – The Lord of Darkness.
Sombra himself does not appear in Season 1, but he is mentioned as a myth, and a portrait of him is shown in his abandoned mansion. Hidden somewhere in Everfree Forest is the lost Mansion of Doctor Sombra, a Rogue Scientist and practitioner of dark magic who went off the grid over a hundred years ago, but then abandoned his mansion suddenly and vanished. The mansion will be found early in season 1 and will be explored several times throughout the series.
Sombra will appear in-person halfway through Season 2, after sensing that his Mansion has been disturbed and that his master may have returned. In his introductory episode, it is made clear that Sombra has come out of hiding and has begun visiting his old dwellings to gather his lost possessions and items of power in preparation for what he believes to be the return of his master - The Lord of Darkness. Sombra will appear throughout the series trying to reclaim his items of power, and will eventually join the side of the Lord of Darkness as he gathers an army of Villains as part of a plan to conquer both the Human world and Equestria.
There will also be flashback episodes to the 1800's at several points in the series, since this was the time-period when the Technological Consortium was founded in its present state as it transitioned from the Order of the Pillars to the Technological Consortium..
