Your green man looks very stern as many others do and it has trememndous impact. I would consider it an honour if you would look at a green man I carved which is in my gallery..

Hello Harry!
It has not to be "my" green man or the modern reproduction of it, but the ancient-before-the-time one, more like ones at old carvings and old churches, naive looking. I saw a couple of hundreds of green men photos before I did this vignette for the Fairport book, and these old ones, they carry enormous power of life, death and regeneration and yes, they may look very frightening (this one of mine is not that scary). I tried to do the green man closer to traditional and avoid "beautification" - we can be good friends with the green guy in these days, we have shoes, clothes, warm homes, but Fairports singing, very often, about gipsies, sailors, outlaws from the old times, so these can be rough life stories...
And your green men is beautiful, I like it very much, especially for it's carved (very nice) in wood. I am very close to "him" here where I live now - Istria, among the oak woods...
Thanks for the attention; I've visited your dART pages - like what I saw.
Cheers,

I did not write the following but I love the philosophy.
Our remote ancestors said to their mother Earth, "We are yours."
Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."
The Green Man has returned as the living face of the whole earth so that through his mouth we may say to the universe, "We are one."
I carved my green man from limewood-Tilia europaea. I had no set plan, I did no drawing first. In time it seemed to have a life of its own as I carved.I like to feel that I was guided by the quotation above.
I live in Lincolnshire, England. The county has more green men in churches than any other county in England. However, the chapel in Rosslyn, Scotland has over a hundred.
I find green man is a very interesting subject.
Thanks for the compliments.
One of the guys from Fairport convention came to my eleven year old granddaughter's school recently to do a music workshop. That's what I like to hear.

Thanks for the link. They say 'Don't judge a book by its cover' but in this case I would bet I would be quite safe in doing so.It looks like being a great book. Everything on the cover is in keeping with the philosophy on your chosen theme especially the whole colour scheme. I think it will become a collector's item!
Is the book generally available for sale?
